Fujisan Area

Hey everyone!
I’ve never had the chance to hike Mt.Fuji (I haven’t even seen it before from far away!), and I really want to get around to doing it this July. I’m thinking of making the whole trip -two weeks- ‘Fuji themed’ and just staying in the area.
So. I’m planning to come from Tokyo and stay in K's House Mt.Fuji. The first two days will be dedicated to climbing Mt.Fuji (as a first-timer I’ll be climbing the Yoshida Trail).
After that I’m thinking 6 days as base in Kawaguchiko (I’ll be going to Iyashi no Sato, wind/ice caves, Fujiyama Museum, Herb Hall, Oishi Park, Kubota Itchiku Art Museum, Kachi Kachi Ropeway, Fuji Visitor Center, Fujiyoshida Sengen Shrine, Oshino Hakkai and to the five different lakes).
After that I’ll head down to Hakone for 3/4 days.
What other places or cities do you think would be enjoyable? How about the Kofu and Minami Alps area? (Can you see Mt.Fuji from there?) If I enjoy my climb I’ll definitely want to do the Sea to Summit Mt.Fuji hike (I already want to do that now, but I think I should get a feel of what to expect before diving fully in), so I’m leaving Fuji Town for that future trip.

I know most people don’t spend so long in the area but I’ve been to Japan before and I’ll go again many times, so I’m not in a hurry to cross places off my list or anything. I’d prefer to get to know a place in depth than go to many different places in only 2 weeks.
