From Malang to Yogya

Jump to last reply

We're a group of 7 adults (3 older persons) who plan to go from Malang to Yogyakarta on 29-Jan. We intend to take the night bus from Malang, arrive Yogyakarta early in the morning and continue to Borobudur to see the sunrise; stay in Yogyakarta that day, visiting Prambanan in the late afternoon to combine with the Ramayana ballet (if there is show that day) and take the flight home the next afternoon 30-Jan.
Is it possible and advisable to do so?
If yes:
1. How long does it take from Malang to Yogyakarta by bus? I hear that there is "executive bus" which is quite comfortable for a night trip. Do you know the name of the bus service - timetable, etc.? Or is there train service from Malang to Yogyakarta, and which one (bus or train) is better for our itinerary?
2. When we arrive at Yogyakarta, what transportation available at that time of the day which can take our group to Borobudur? I'm afraid a taxi (for non-local like us) is too much for our budget; and what should we do with our luggage? I see car rental service (car + driver) with 12-hours rental, which includes Borobudur and Prambanan. Is it a good solution? Can we leave our things with the car while visiting Borobudur, or should we go to hotel and deposit our luggage there (I haven't booked hotel yet, but I think they accept luggage deposit, don't they?)?. Do you know if I can order the car online/by email (and the car will show up in time)?
3. Borobudur seems to open at 6am (& they say it'll be when the sun rises), will there be ticket selling at that time, or do I have to buy tickets in advance?
If going directly to Borobudur is too much hassle, do you have any other suggestion?
I'd appreciate any idea/suggestion/recommendation.
Thank you.
