I stayed in this hotel in 1997, just before Four Seasons bought it. I thought it was an excellent hotel with good food, friendly staff and large bungalows. The clientele was a good mix of Americans, Europeans and Japanese - be careful since some hotels cater to specific nationalities. The beaches are fabulous and it had the largest swimming pool in the Maldives (in 1997 at least!). It's also not far from the international airport, so you won't have to spend extra time and money flying to some of the outer islands. I haven't been back since Four Seasons took over, but I would go back there the next time I go to the Maldives.
I've heard nothing but awesome things. And now, with the new Island Explorer yacht, it is even more appealing.
