Foot question from a wiggle worm

I have read that feet are a big deal in Thailand. That one should not point their feet at anyone or have the bottoms seen.

I am a wiggle worm! I cannot sit still to save my life! I am most comfortable with my feet off the floor and and almost always sit on one leg or crosslegged. Yes, this from a grown woman BUT I just can't help it.

How much problem am I going to have in Thailand? I am trying to train myself to sit better but it is a HUGE struggle.

Thais are pretty tolerant of the foibles of farangs. Nonetheless, sitting so the sole of your foot is facing someone is considered rude.

Where you really need to be careful is if you sit in temples (on the floor). Try for either a modified lotus or a mermaid type position, so your feet are pointed away from the Buddha statues.

I think I can handle this now. Whew, what a relief. I will practice my lotus position.

This was a couple of years ago, but I was sitting on a lobby sofa at the Omni, doing my internet on my laptop. I stretched out a bit on the sofa, with my feet sort of hanging over the edge, rather than on the floor. I was very politely asked to put my feet down. I didn't even realize what I had done, I guess. Anyway, it was no big deal, but I was glad they reminded me (and so politely).

Probably too much bling!! Who knows.. maybe I was shining to brightly in someone's eye and they reported me!! LOL

Actually, the Omni is a very nice apartment hotel, and the lobby is usually a bustling place, with interesting people coming and going all the time. I just got too comfy with my laptop, and forgot my manners. I put my feet up, without thinking about it. A little bit embarrassing is all...

Soi 4 does have its own character! (and characterS)
