Festivals or Events in Asia
I'm thinking to travel somewhere in Asia from 29th April until 10th May. At the moment I have no idea where I should go! It should be a warm and nice place with beaches and not too far away from Japan. It would be also interesting for me to know where during this time in Asia festivals or events are held....maybe I can combine that with my holiday!?!?!
I would be very happy if some of you could get me a tip!

Asia is huge, so can you narrow down your comment? As a general comment, I would give the following guidelines:
In China, May 1-3 are holidays and many people take or have the whole week off; I would actually avoid travelling in China from the last day in April through the end of the first week in May (Hong Kong is OK, it is a holiday but not noticeably more crowded.) May 1 is a public holiday in many countries around the world, but you won't find a lot of parades and demonstrations in Asia like you would on May 1 in Europe. (Its labour day if your wondering, and I mean labour in the Socialist/Communist labour movement sense, not the beach barbeque in the US sense.)
There are no major holiday like Chinese new year, Sonkran (Thai new year) or Deepavali (Hindu new year) during those months. Ramadan does not start until the fall this year so again no major Muslim holidays in April or May. The Buddha's birth/death/reincarnation (called Vesak Day) is generally celebrated around May 1, but this is not a huge event in most places, and not a public holiday (i.e. banks and government closed) in most.
Actually you will just miss Sonkran in Thailand which is generally in mid-April. I would try to go to Thailand during Sonkran, as it is a fun and festive time to be there.
You might search the embassy websites of the countries you are planning to visit, they usually have a tourism section and/or links to tourist sites that give information on holidays and festivals.

Thanks orgy for the whatson link, it was quite informative. Even if a most of the dates were currently to be confirmed.
I'm looking forward to plan my trip to coincide with the Surin Elephant Round Up, Lop Buri Monkey Banquet, Lop Buri Sunflower Festival, Bridge Over the River Kwai week, Bon Om Tuk Water Festival in Phnom Penh and the Birthday celebrations of HM the King of Thailand!
