Family Hotel in Bangkok & Chiang Mai
This is my first posting so hope I've done it right .
I am planning a trip to Thailand & Vietnam with my wife & children ( 14 & 12 )next march / April .
I am flying to Bangkok & staying for 2 nights before flying to Chiang Mai . I have arranged the trek here but am not sure what would be a good family hotel in Bangkok & for the night in Chiang Mai before & after the trek .
Obviously I want smthg family friendly & not too expensive since I will probably need 2 rooms though I don't think we would want a really cheap back packer hotel.
Can Anyone help ?

We just got back from both places and loved both! You'll have a great time. You might want to check out Center Point Silom in Bangkok. It is a serviced apartment and while you won't really need the full kitchen facilities (a wonderful breakfast buffet is included in the room cost) you might be able to get away with only one room which could be a better value than two rooms. We stayed in one of the studio apartments and paid about $80 USD. I didn't see many kids there, but it didn't strike me as a place that families would not be welcome at. On the contrary - it is one of the most welcoming places I have stayed. And it is right at the Taksin end of the Skytrain so you can get around easily.
In Chiang Mai, I would recommend the River View Lodge. There were many families there and our room was about $60 USD. You can also leave much of your luggage with them while you trek. The only downside of the River View is that they don't have any on-line booking options or e-mail. You print off a booking form and fax it to them. I had trouble getting the fax to go through and ended up calling. Unfortunately we had a very bad phone connection, but we were able to get it to go through and they had a lovely room with a view of the river waiting for us. They couldn't have been nicer. The web site is: http://www.riverviewlodgch.com/
Enjoy! And post your questions here as you plan. The folks on this board are wonderfully helpful (if a bit acerbic in their wit someimes )

jscales' idea of Centerpoint Silom is a good one. Quite a number of families have reported on their stays there. They also have one bedroom apartments, which might work better for you, as well as two bedroom apartments. Since you'll be traveling at low season, prices should be good.
Another option in Chiang Mai that many people love is Baan Orapin. They do have family rooms, and the prices are very good.

Thanks very much jcasale & Kathie ,
Hadn't thought of a serviced apartment . I think a 1 bedroom one though may get a little claustrophobic with a teenage daughter & son so may check out 2 bedroom apartments .
The suggestions in Chiang Mai both look good especially the Baan Orapin so may make enquires there .
Thanks once again

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment at Centrepoint Silom last year with our 2 kids and can highly recommend it.The rooms are huge. Our 2 are a little younger and were very comfortable sharing the fold-out couch in the sitting room but you may want to opt for the 2 bedroom. The pool area is on the 4th floor from memmory in an outdoor terrace area and is very nice by city hotel standards. It is also in the perfect location for a first timer to Bangkok, a short walk to both the River and the Skytrain so everything that the city has to offer is easily accessable.

moveandstay.com for a list of serviced apartments and photos. However no need to book through them. They can be more expensive than if going directly through the building or using other booking agents.
You can also type in the SEARCH box above, "Apartments in Bangkok" as we've written a LOT on this topic. Happy Travels!

While the 1 bedroom at the Centre Pointe Silom is large (90sqm) it might be too crowded with 4 four people. Anyway they consider a child to be under 12 so you could not have 4 in a 1 bedroom. You either need a 2 brdroom (expensive) or get 2 studios.
In Chiang Baan Orapin is an excellent place but again you will need 2 rooms also.
