Ending another Asia trip in seattle

We met "Kathie from Seattle" and Cheryl for a fabulous NW seafood dinner at Shuckers in the Fairmont Seattle hotel. The hotel is a grand-dame of a hotel and the restaurant is clubby and elegant.

Fodorites, if your ears were burning, it was because we were talking about you.

This tops off our 5 week trip to Japan, a 2 week transpacific cruise, a few days in Vancouver, the Cascade train from Vancouver to Seattle, and bow finally 3 days in Seattle.

Next up Thailand and Vietnam in November.

It was wonderful to see Bob and Karen and to share some champagne and wonderful seafood here in Seattle. Lots of travel talk and talk of old Fodor's friends.

How did you like the transpacific cruise? I've always thought that sounded like fun!

No mention of politics to keep the evening full of fun...

Our ship, celebrity mellenium (sp), is a bit of a rust bucket
which made the trip less appealing. The 3 port stops were less than ideal, as well.

The crossing was quite smooth, as I guess it can be quite rough. Back to trans-Atlantic in the future, and on Soltice sized ships.

I do not speak the mysterious language of cruiser...is solstice larger or smaller and what makes a port stop less than ideal? Lucky it was pacific on the pacific though

Solstice is a class of ship-- large.

The Russian port we stopped at had almost no interesting places to see

my ears had a sunburned look this weekend and I had wondered why...

Would have loved to be at the Seattle dinner but we weren't invited hahaha. Glad you all had a fun evening.

Did you come away with a different impression of Japan this time peeking into the countryside or same?

Aloha!

As much as I was envious of this last trip, I'm even more so of your upcoming return visit to Vietnam and Thailand. Hopefully we will get back there in 2018. It's been too long.

peter... I have lots of respect for Japan and it's people. I liked being in the countryside, especially Hakone, but my true love is still SEA.

Bob- Glad you had a good trip and got to see Kathie and Cheryl.

HT- MY DH wants to return to Japan for a third time. If we were to visit Hokkaido what would you recommend for a 10 day itinerary? I know how to plan Kyushu in 8-10 days, but planning Hokkaido in 10 days is not as easy. We would want to go in Nov.
