Eaton Hotel, Hong Kong
Hi
I'm going to Hong Kong soon for the first time and I'm looking people's knowledge on how easy it is from the Eaton Hotel, Nathan Road to places such as the Peak and Big Buddha etc?
the surrounding shops and resturants - how far is it from the Star Ferry to get to Hong Kong Island?

Very easy. The Eaton is fairly close to the Jordan MTR station, which is just one stop north of Tsimshatsui. There are very frequent buses (like every minute - Routes 1, 1A, 2, 6, 6A or 7) that goes down Nathan Road to the Star Ferry.
To get to the Big Buddha, you can either take the ferry to Mui Wo and transfer to the bus; or take the MTR to Tung Chung. From Tung Chung, the current method to get to the Big Buddha is by bus, but the aerail tramway called "Ngong Ping 360" or "NP360" is opening on June 24. www.np360.com.hk Expect lots of visitors and long lines, however.
To go to the Peak, there are various ways to do it. The most "scenic" and fun route is to take one of the buses from the Eaton down Nathan Road to the Star Ferry. Take the ferry across the harbor to Cental. Then either walk or take the number 15C shuttle bus to the Peak Tram station and take the Peak Tram up.

Oh, let me elaborate on how to get to the Big Buddha.
1. Ferry route. The pier is in Central, so you need to go over there. Either MTR directly to Central and walk back north to the piers; or do the same bus to Star Ferry and ferry across the harbor. A short walk from the Star Ferry pier to the #6 pier for Mui Wo.
2. MTR route. From Jordan, go north on the Tsuen Wan line, direction Tseun Wan. Transfer to Tung Chung line at Lai King to Tung Chung.

MTR is the subway.
Don't worry. All the signs have English on it. Buses are tiny bit trickier, but really not bad.
There are lots and lots of information about getting around in Hong Kong and the Octopus store-value card for transportation fare. Do a search and you'll find lots of answers. I have never read ONE single comment here that it's hard to get around Hong Kong.
