We're going to be staying 3 nights at the Eastern & Oriental hotel in Penang this February and would like to hear from anyone who has stayed there. It's a bit pricey but seems like one of those very special hotels. The basic room is the "Deluxe" and then for more money the "Premier" has a patio and sea view. Any comments on the hotel and which type of room to take would be appreciated.

Wonderful hotel! Very much like an uncommefcialised Raffles!
I stayed here a couple of years ago, I've done a review of the hotel on Epinions (under the name PJ Keay)
Thanks Walter for your reply. I'll go have a look on Epinions. BTW do you recall what type of room you had at the E & O ? We plan on 3 days in Penang. Is there lots to do there ?
deluxe sea facing suite
Hi galiano! We have also stayed at the E&O and I think we stayed in a Straits Suite. It is a beautiful hotel and, as you said, a very special hotel - we really enjoyed staying there. It was quite deserted when we were there and we were alone in the main restaurant for breakfast although others joined us at lunch and dinner. We also had the pool entirely to ourselves. The bathrooms are gorgeous and we found the service to be excellent. Is there enough to do in Penang for three nights? IMO, yes, you will be able to see all of the sights and have a bit of time left over for relaxing and enjoying the pool depending on your arrival and departure times. Have a wonderful stay at the E&O I think you will really find it was worth the price. Have a great trip!
Thank you all for the great replies. I better book the E & O right now ! !
I wanna go, too! Have been trying to get to Penang forever. Have been to KL and to Southeast Asia quite a bit...but have to work harder at getting to Penang and staying at the Eastern and Oriental...now that it's renovated. Happy Travels!
