Dressmaking in Bangkok or Phuket

My daughter needs a special dress for her proms. We will be in Bangkok(4 nights) and Phuket(8 nights) soon. Can anyone recommend a dress maker in either Bangkok or Phuket-she wants a copy of a style from a picture(Western style-not a Thai style dress)? Would it be better to get it in BKK or Phuket?
Thanks-Clare

very difficult to get something done without the kid, or is she going to be with you??

jim thompson does custom dress making at their main store...high end...

cotton house in back of the oriental hotel might do it for you or one of the other shops there in OP Place...

from what everyone has said bkk would be the best place....but only 4 nites does not make go a good custom job...

we have only done custom in bkk....

btw, you cannot go there and just say i want a size 8 dress.....you need tons of different measuremnts....

Hi rhkkmk
Thanks for your reply. She will be coming with us, so she can be measured etc.

I use Cotton House regularly and I take my own fabric although they have fabric. With the little amount of time you have, I wouldn't want to spend it looking for fabric. Plus, with custom-made clothing, I would suggest at least two fittings. Happy Travels!

Try Julie at 1279 New Road, not far from the Oriental. She was recommended to us by friends who lived in Bangkok for several years. Our two daughters, 22 and 19, each had an outfit made by Julie over the Christmas holidays. Julie Thai Cotton and Silk is the full name of her shop - you can google her.

I have also used Julie for about 7 years. They do great work and the prices are good. I had them sewing silk jackets which I sold here in the States, so that speaks for the quality. Ask for Moon and be sure to tell her that I recommended her.

I have used Cotton house in the past. It was more expensive than other places I saw, but I believe the quality was high.

I would FOR SURE make sure you have two fittings scheduled...not including the first intial measurement fitting.
