Years ago I had high quality sport jackets made in 2 days and dress shirts of expensive Egyptian cottons made in 1 day. The cost in the 1990's was 1/3rd the cost of US prices. What is the situation these days?

The tailoring in SIngapore remains excellent, but the price differential between the US and Singapore isn't as great as it was back then. The tailor I'd recommend is:
Leighton's Shop Pte Ltd
Add: 545 Orchard Rd #02-03
Far East Shopping Centre Singapore 238882
Tel: (65) - 62352410
The situation today is that everything includes shopping become very expensive so lots of Singaporeans go to Bangkok to shop. I met them in my hotel and that's what they told me. They told me to skip shopping and concentrate on food and that's what I did. I wouldn't expect to find bargains there.
