Thonburi is pretty much the whole Western part of Bangkok from the Chao Praya river Westward. From the river front area, like where the Penn is situated it will take you around 45 - 60 minutes to get to either airport, depending on the time of day. Don Muang will be a bit quicker to get to because the toll way has less traffic.
i agree 100% from my experiences... i allow plenty of extra time to both airports in any case... for instance for international flts i allow a minimum of 3 hours... for domestic 2.5... remember at both airports, but especially S the walking distances are quite far once inside, as much as 15-20 minutes
