Dinner for friends visiting Hanoi
Some friends who hosted our wedding ceremony at their home in Sedona are going to be in Vietnam in a couple of weeks, and we'd like to surprise them with a special dinner as a thank-you. We're thinking Hanoi since that's their first stop. They're staying at the Sofitel Metropole. The husband is a very picky eater - he'd prefer Western food such as steak or even hamburgers/fries.
Any suggestions on where we could send them? I'm considering Bobby Chinn. Do you all have other recommendations? What about something in the hotel?
Also, suggestions on how we can arrange it such that it's paid for?
Thanks,
Karen

Yes, Bob, wedding! Long-running thread over in the Fodor's lounge. But for those of you who missed it, I got married in October. Here's a photo:

Nice photo, Karen. Congratulations and best wishes to you both.
Bobby Chinn was the place I thought of when I read your post. Another place we enjoyed was Club Opera, sort of across the street from the Sofitel, as I remember.
Talk with the manager of the restaurant abut how best to arrange for the meal to be paid for my you rather than your guests.

For western food esp hamburger, I would try Moose and Roo . Very good food and excellent service. There are a couple of outlets in the City. For steak El Gaucho, unsurprisingly an argentine chain. Create choice of Argentine Aus, NZ, US beef. They even have a range of Wagyu beef if you want to push the boat out. All of these are in the centre.
Bobby Chinns has moved out of Central Hanoi now to one of the suburbs.

Thanks, dugunbug!
Also, we went with El Gaucho. They were very easy to work with. Our friends have already emailed to say they were presented the vouchers upon arrival at their hotel and they're looking forward to dinner Sunday night. Fingers crossed.

We heard from out friends. They said El Gaucho was "beyond fabulous - best steaks we ever had." They said the manager came over and had drinks with them. It worked out perfectly!
