Destination Bangkok, again
My flight to Thailand is in a few hours. I bought my ticket many months ago, when a first class ticket was priced just slightly more than business class! Little did I know when I bought it that United would stop serving BKK airport. Maybe that's the reason for such a good price! I know many here like ANA, but I'm not one of them. Oh well... 1st class to NRT on UA and business class on ANA to BKK. I shall survive. My return is same, unless I need to make changes.
The main purpose for this trip is the birthday of a Thai friend. I plan to take her to Hong Kong for sight seeing and shopping, barring any bad weather. Then plans will change to either Singapore or Penang. We shall see.
I return to Adelphi, Sukhumvit soi 8, but will also stay at the newer Marriott at soi 57. HKG will be sandwiched in between these two stays.
Weather outlook: rainy in Bangkok. I shall not be deterred! Haha.
Meeting up with a fodorite for dinner at the new Embassy mall.
Wheels up soon! Time to head to the airport.

Wish I could Carol but I am leaving town tomorrow and will not be back in time. Lots of choices there but I have not tried them all yet. I suggest you walk around and look first before you decide.

Haha! Kuranosuke, I'm trying to picture Bob in that outfit.... pretty scary! But I will certainly keep my eye out for him!
Pook, sorry to miss you yet again. We must try harder.....
Karen, Bob, I just am not a foodie and looking at food and wondering "what is THAT" is not my cup of tea as you know. Food allergies could give me a difficult time if I'm not careful. I also don't care for the barcalounger seating. I much prefer UA's flat bed seat! No comparison. UA food is so so, as everyone will no doubt agree, but comfort is #1 in my book and UA wins that battle.
Hello from Narita! Just had a shower in the UA 1st lounge. If I were to head to ANA lounge I would not get to go to 1st class part so I'll just relax here for a bit.
The flight over was quite bumpy. Must have been lots of storms! Narita is cloudy and about 75. I think it must be windy as I can hear it sitting by the window. Bangkok may have rain when I arrive, but it will be tolerable! Things to do and people to see as soon as I hit the city! I will get my second wind, as usual, but will fade at about 2:30am!! Time enough for a cold beer and warm greetings from Thai and other friends.
I will catch up once settled into Adelphi once again.

Karen, Bob, just saw your email re: Marriott. Thanks for that. I would like to use points if we head to HKG. As I mentioned, it is going to depend on weather. If a typhoon is heading to HKG then we will rethink our plans! I'll have to wait a couple of days before making a decision.

Kathie November is always Europe for me. No Hong Kong then. Hong Kong will happen next week though!
My fodors ninja and I will meet at Paragon and select a dinner location there instead of Embassy mall. My goal today is to stay awake!!

Ninja and I ate at a Hawaiian (not authentic) restaurant on the 4th floor food lane at Paragon. We had a lovely 2-hour dinner with lots of conversation about travel, United Airlines, and of course fodorites!! Were your ears burning? Haha!
I made a quick trip to the Beer Vault at Sheraton Four Points on soi 15, to say hello to singer Lee Shamrock. It's always good to see him. He's a very personable guy, and a great entertainer. He's the one-man band!
Plans are to have Sunday brunch at the J W on Sukhumvit tomorrow. There will be about 10 of us. Should be a good time. Then it will be time to book the trip to Hong Kong. It is looking like a Tuesday thru Saturday trip starting in just a few days! The good news is there are plenty of frequent flier seats left! Yeh! And I've about decided on the J W Hong Kong, and can do that with points. Too bad I missed out on the special deal (thanks Bob and Karen) but I had no idea of our travel dates until just a couple of hours ago.
I want suggestions for things to do in Hong Kong. We'll of course do the Peak and Stanley Market and ride boats around the harbor. I'm thinking maybe to go Big Buddha, but that is not a sure thing. Shopping will be at the top of the list, but most of it in Kowloon (markets and such). Suggestions for markets I might not know about????
Time to catch a nice L-O-N-G sleep now. I can't believe I stayed awake until 10pm. I did get a 3hour nap this afternoon, but that was after only sleeping 2 hours last night. Don't you just love jetlag?
