Dental Work in Bangkok
I need to have some major dental work performed and I'm currently considering visiting Bangkok. It will possibly be implants, bridgework and crowns. Does anyone have recommendations as to the best clinics or hospitals? I have had three recommendations so far: Bumrungrad, Bangkok Dental Hospital and Dr Kiertichai, 114/2 Diethelm Tower. Any other suggestions (good or bad!) would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Please tell us more about yourself, this being your first post. Are you a regular visitor to Thailand or will this be your first visit. How did you come by the name of the dentist you've mentioned?
For now, I suggest you stick with Bumrungrad. I had a bad experience with the Bangkok Dental Hospital when they first open but don't know how they are today.

Hi Hanuman - Bumrungrad and Dr Kiertichai were recommended by friends who live in Hong Kong. They said everyone in HK goes to Bangkok for dental work. I've been to Thailand on a number of occasions - the local tourist spots - and just love it! Bangkok Dental Hospital was recommended by a friend of a friend who were expats - lived in Bangkok for a number of years.

Then I definitely suggest Bumrungrad for their doctors and facilities. After your first consultation they will refer you to the doctor who specialize in the field you want treatment for. I suggest that you register online first so that you will have a "Hospital Number" and then email them for an appointment.

Kathie, could you describe the sort of work you had done. I am wondering if they do root canals there. This is a very deep procedure and I am wondering if anyone has had success with this sort of thing.

They do all kinds of dental work at Bumrungrad. I've really only had routine work (cleaning, light fill of gum line abrasions, etc). I wouldn't hesitate to use them for more extensive work. There are others here on Fodors who have used them for extensive dental work.
Bumrungrad is an excellent facility, the equal of the best hospitals in North America or Europe. For hospitalizations and surgery (I know, not what you are asking about) they have better staff to patient ratios, longer length of stay and better, closer follow-up than Western hospitals have - and at much lower pries. I've met people who traveled to Thailand to have major surgery at Bumrungrad and were very pleased with their care.

My family visited Bangkok last April.
My wife and I had work at Thantakit and she had a wonderful experience with her tooth scaling (plus they picked her up at her hotel)

We did dental tourism, not in Thailand but in Mexico, for extensive work for my husband--all the kinds of things you are mentioning. It was so worth it. Excellent dentist with a great, up-to-date facility and techniques. Materials for crowns were the same as used by good dentists here in the US. It cost us about 30% of what it would have cost at home, and we had a nice vacation in Merida at the same time.
