Day Treks near Kathmandu
I'll be in Kathmandu early January, 2007. Has anyone taken day treks of 3 - 5 hours there? How far do we have to go for a view of Mt. Everest?
Any info the Doc would appreciate?

You can go to Nagarkot for a "view" of Everest. They typical thing is to go there to see the sunrise. However, the frequency of fog means it's unlikely you will see Everest. The best way to see really Everest is to take the plane ride. It's pretty spectacular, but don't do it if you are a white-knuckle flyer!
There are lots of days hikes you can take in the vicinity of Kathmandu Valley. I remember a guidebook that was just about hiking/treking. Check amazon.com or your bookstore.

Thank Kathie for your tips.
The plane sounds great to me. Don't know if I can get my daughter in that small of a plane.
Do you know of a nice restaurant in Kathmandu to celebrate my daughter's birthday when we're there?
Thanks again,
Doc

Oh and by the way Doc. If you are a golfer try and do a round whilst you are there. I do have a photo around of me teeing off from a mountain with the green apparently on the next mountain. I do not kid!!!!
