I'm a bit skeptical when I can't find the hotel listen on tripadvisor.com. Is it your first trip to KL? Maybe you can find some useful info in my KL trip report with pictures and links: http://gardkarlsen.com/malaysia_kuala_lumpur.htm

Thanks for the reply. Wish we could afford Traders, but it's just not in our budget. If you have other suggestions for some cheaper hotels which are still clean and safe and near Jalan Alor food stalls, I'd be grateful.

Whether a hotel is on Tripadvisor is irrelevant because they are part of some travel group anyway.
There are many hotels and places not listed on Tripadvisor.
I don't know Corona at all but many other have it, seems in the RM 120-140 range so it is not lux but seems 2 star+ range.
I guess the question is how you came across it (?), perhaps check some alternative for places in similar area that do have reviews.

What about the Federal KL ? That should be similar price range. Has been around so many years.
It is so many years since I stayed but 'then' it was ok I 'think' it's near Jalan Alor but you would need to check.

Agree. Tripadvisor is not the bible of Malaysian travels. Many good hotels aren't listed there.
Acctg, sorry for coming in late. Corona Inn is sort of budget hotel for tour groups coming from Far East like Hong Kong, Taiwan or China. It's OK for the price, also considering it's just walking distance to Jalan Alor.
There's a street stall selling beef noddle opposite Corona Inn you must try. The lady owner is rather small sized and she stands on a platform to do the cooking. The stall has been around for 30 years. A good start for food safari around that area.

TravelTweedle (great handle, btw) - thanks for the response. Is there somewhere else near the food stalls that you would recommend? It can be a little higher priced, but we are trying to keep the budget down as we have expensive lodging in other areas and in KL, we use the hotel for sleep and shower. We are two older couples, looking for clean and safe lodging.

Hi, jkgourmet. The food spectrum is very wide in KL. It's like eating in China, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, and not forgetting Malaysia, all in one go.
On the lower end, you can eat your way around ....
- Petaling Street
- Central Market
- Kampung Baru (the only Malay village enclave inside KL)
- foodcourt in KLCC Suria; can't remember whether it's on 3rd or 4th floor. Great variety
- Section 2, Petaling Jaya. The place is sprawling with street eateries.
- of course, Jalan Alor
On the high side, good nibbles can be found at .....
- Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, walking distance from Jalan Alor
- Bangsar Baru. Go to places like Alexis, Madam Kwan or La Bodega
- Desa Sri Hartamas, look out for a place call Souled Out
- Bricksfield for great banana leaf rice. Lots of eateries to choose from
- Tamarind Hill, off Jalan Ampang. This one is out-of-the-way but the hillside rainforest setting is absolutely romantic to coo your spouse.
- Cafe Coliseum, the oldest colonial restaurant and the best steak in KL.
- Raju's Corner, off Jalan Gasing, enjoy eating some serious curries al fresco under some shady trees.
- Suchan Deli, very good cakes, local and fusion food.
- The Curve in Petaling Jaya. Lots of good restaurants to choose from.
I can go on forever about food in KL - and confuse you. Let me know what you like, your hotel location and the budget. Perhaps I can narrow down and give you spot-on suggestion.

Jkgourmet, I was galloping away with food and forgot all about your resquest on hotel. In fact I didn't quite answer your question. Sorry for the ramblings.
As suggested by JamesA, Federal Hotel is near Jalan Alor and a little upmarket. You can also try The Regent. I usually stay at Hotel Istana.

This just came to mind. If you're looking for really cheap sleep and bath, I think Tune Hotel http://www.tunehotels.com/ suits best. It not near Jalan Alor but it's near LRT station and you can catch a 5 mins train to Jalan Alor. I've stayed there once. Good safety, internet connection and walking distance to interesting places like Masjid India, Cafe Coliseum, Maju Junction ... etc.
