Cooking class/Food Tour/Fish market tour

I'm having so much fun, but feel so overwhelmed too planning our Japan trip next month. Yikes!
Although I've been scouring Trip Advisor I'm having a hard time picking which particular cooking class, food tour, or fish market tour I want to experience and where.

We have four nights in Tokyo, one night in Hakone, two-three in Kanazawa, and four in Kyoto. Obviously, the fish market tour will in Tokyo any suggestions on whether the cooking class/food tour should be in Tokyo or Kyoto? Which ones?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I know context offers a Tokyo fish market tour. Haven't taken a tour from them in Japan yet but they were amazing in Italy

There is a lady who wrote a cookbook that also does private tours. I don't have access to her information where I am, but you can probably track her down, either on this board, or through a google search. IIRC, her price was about $500/USD for a 4-6 hour tour. We ruled it out because of the cost.

Yukari wrote Food, Sake, Tokyo, and we toured with her in Tokyo (3 years ago), it was one of our travel highlights. I think we did the 3 hour option.

Yikes! $500 is probably more than we want to spend. I'll take a look at what the three hour version is. Thanks.

Do you think it would be redundant to do the fish market tour in Tokyo and visit the other market in Kyoto?

Depends on if you like markets - I adore them so I visit all food markets I come across. Certainly these two are *completely* different prospects.

Nishiki Market was pretty underwhelming IMHO. I've been to plenty of other markets in Asia that I thought were more interesting. That said, it wouldn't take too long to wander through Nishiki if you have a couple of extra hours on your itinerary.

And yes, FromDC, Yukari was the woman I was thinking of. I did hear that she was fabulous.

Elizabeth Andoh an American, married to a Japanese man. She has lived in Japan for over 40 years.
I believe she gives classes and tours. She has written several cook books and is very well thought of.

I met her in the late 1970's here in New York, she was pretty impressive even then.

Thanks for this info. Sadly, she's not offering classes while we are there.
