Contact Lenses in Bangkok

I have read that glasses are cheap in Thailand, but can anyone give me an idea on cost of contact lenses? I wear hard gas permeable ones which cost about £90 per pair here in the UK. I need a new pair, and if they are reasonably priced, I will buy them in Bangkok. Any info or advice would be gratefully appreciated!

I went to Bankok a couple of months ago and can tell you that contact lenses and optometrist stuff is a bargain in BKK. I wear daily disposable lenses and managed to get 15 pairs for 600 baht - much cheaper than back home. Just bring along your prescription or the box of lenses to show them the brand you need - the optometrists are vey well equiped and can also do eye tests etc

Thanks James, that is what I thought but it is good to get clarification! Roughly how long does it take for them to make your contacts?

I am not sure as mine were "off the shelf" contacts, but my friend had some glasses made in a couple of days so shouldn't take long. Prescription glasses are also a great deal in BKK with a good range of frames.

Louise:
Unlike soft lenses, which are same everywhere, if you get the same brand and parameters, this is NOT the case with gas permeable lenses. Even the big brand names, such as Polycon and Boston may have different production facilities and sending the same set of parameters may not produce the same product, even from the same company. Get your glasses as cheap as you want but remember that , unlike your glasses, your contacts rest directly on your eye and can do some serious and permanent damage if they are not right. You get one pair of eyes.
Dr. Thomas Freddo
Director, Specialty Contact Lens Services, Boston University School of Medicine

Thanks for your reply Dr Freddo. I am probably being a bit dim here, but do I take your response to mean that I should definitely not buy my contacts in Bangkok using my UK prescription, or should I go to a reputable optician in Bangkok and get them to do a sight test and make the lenses too?
