Connaught Place

Leaving for Delhi tomorrow!

We are staying in/near Connaught Place at the Metropolitan Hotel and our first day is just to chill and become comfortable.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the hotel is walking distance to CP and the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Is it safe to walk there unaccompanied? (We are a couple-first time in India). Would you advise that we walk to CP and just around around there, maybe grab a bite and then walk to the Gurdwara? Ive read mixed reviews on CP. Some say it isnt safe, some say its good shopping. Our signtseeing begins the next day, so this first day is at our own pace.

So excited!! Thanks!!

Thank you! We're doing North India for 3 weeks. Hopefully a lot of wonderful things to write about in my TR!

Unless it's very close (use Google maps or equivalent) I'd take a rickshaw or taxi. Indian pavements/sidewalks aren't anything like the ones you're used to. Ask your hotel for the current going rate and expect to bargain. Board with a map in hand.

We felt safe walking around during the day, but I would not walk around at night, except to get dinner close to your hotel. It is safest to take cabs or a tuk tuk. When we were there several years ago, they were just building the shops in the CP area. There were several nice restaurants and we had dinner at one if them.

Walking during the day is quite safe. However to explore the whole of CP you might want to use an auto-rickshaw. Along with Defence Colony A-block market, I think CP has the best restaurants in Delhi. Rodeo is a value for money watering hole. Embassy and United Coffee House serve decent Indian/Continental fare. And the Pandara Road eating joints are pretty close too.
