Confused about which area to stay, Silom or Sukhumvit or ?

Confused about which area to stay, Silom or Sukhumvit or ?
I am planning my third trip to Bangkok in May. The past two times I stayed at the Sofitel Silom (now the Pullman G by Sofitel). I enjoyed the area very much. Close to Skytrain and walkable to the river. Plus Silom Road always had so much to watch and enjoy. Now I'm looking again, but it seems the Sukhumvit area might be the in place to stay. Thought about the Marriott Sukhumvit but several reviews have dinged it for its location being just outside the "touristy" areas of Sukhumvit. I'm looking for something in the $80 to $120 per night range. Does anyone have thoughts on the following:
Marriotts Sukhumvit's location +/-
Any alternate hotels in Sukhumvit of that same type
Pullman G experience - read a few negative reviews about upkeep of soft and hard goods
Alternate hotels in the Silom area
Alternate areas to look at for hotels outside of the river area
Want to be close to Skytrain. Doesn't have to right next to it. Don't mind a few block walk. I apologize if this question is too everywhere.

Late last year we decided to try something other than the usual suspects and stayed at http://hotelmusebangkok.com We were very impressed. A little quirky and Very different from the many other Bangkok properties we have stayed in. Best rates are probably through the Accor website and they do have regular offers. Alternatively , booking.com
It is in an excellent location 5 mins to Chidlom BTS, the Erawan shrine and a 10 min walk to Wireless road.
At the upper end of your price range.

Adelphi Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 8 is in a super location for ease of reaching the skytrain (2 minutes). This is a serviced apartment hotel, with you choice of a studio or a one-bedroom. I've always done the one-bedroom because I love having the extra space, plus a washing machine (I hang things to dry, the dryer doesn't do much). I have stayed at this location since it opened (2008?)! Rooms are showing some signs of wear and tear, but the staff is friendly, plus the Monsoon Restaurant located in the lobby is a great place to dine.
Another great location is the hotel at Terminal 21, but I'm thinking it is beyond your price limitations.
We just spent 12 nights during the Christmas holiday at a serviced apartment in the Column Tower building, soi 16. The apartment is great! The location is a bit further from the Asok skytrain station, but easily walkable, 7-10 minutes. The main problem with this location is if you take taxis. When the taxi exits the soi it MUST make a left turn onto Asok Road, which means it is going in the "wrong" direction for so many places that I visit. That's the only drawback for Column Tower.
I always stay in the lower Sukhumvit area. I once stayed at the Marriott location (both the serviced apartments and the hotel) and I have to say, it is just too far away for me! But I gave it a good try, as a Marriott Platinum, I felt I had to try it. I do like the J W Marriott though, on Sukhumvit at soi 2, but it is out of your price range, most certainly. I've always used points.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will check them out. Your thoughts on the Marriott are what I heard as well. I am a Marriott Gold and I looked at the JW Marriott but it is above what I wanted to spend. In checking the Marriott site I noticed the Renaissance Hotel. The price is just where I want it to be. What are your thoughts on the Renaissance's location in the Siam area? Seems like a viable option?

The Dusit Thani right at Saladang BTS. I just stayed there last Sunday, for a one night staycation from the vacation, as I rent a condo. But, I like to stay current on hotels and try different ones out.
The Dusit Thani is right at Silom. I got a standard room, on Expedia, for $46.50 total on some kind of special. The regular discounted price was around $80.00. I liked the hotel as it reminded me of the no-longer Siam Intercontinental in which the structure and interior looked very Thai.
The Dusit Thani has a lot of history and there are beautiful photos in the lobby of the actual building of it in the 1960s and photos of the tons of folks who stayed there.
Right now, I'm doing a one-night, staycation at the Siam Kempenski which is beyond fabulous. But, I don't remember how much I paid for this room. Plus, I was told that I had been upgraded upon check in so I don't know what the standard rooms look like, which is what I had initially booked.
