Coming soon - an updated look for Fodors.com

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to let you know that later this week, Fodors.com will be sporting a new look and feel. As you’ve probably heard, we’re celebrating our 75th anniversary this year. Our web team has been hard at work on an updated look for our site in honor of this significant milestone.

The crisp, new design will make it easier for you to find the information you need without affecting the site’s core functionality and should not affect or change the way you currently use the Forums. We’d love to hear your feedback, and certainly want to know if you have any problems or questions. As always, you can reach me at [email protected].

Hmmm. Does this include changing the way the forums look/work? Remember last time you did that??? I'm happy with it the way it is.

Hi thursdaysd,

As stated above, the new design should not affect or change the way you currently use the Forums.

good luck however, and thank you very much for letting us know what to anticipate in advance.

Well, it looks like some of the changes took effect today. Or is it just me?
The header looks different which is fine, but everything on the page is justified to the center which makes it very difficult to read the comments on the threads. I hope this is just a bug which will be fixed soon.

I usually avoid the Lounge, but I had the feeling there would be some discussion of this there.

There is a solution to the centering problem. Hit F5 on your computer. This refreshes the page and everything looks normal again.

Hi Kristina - yes, the changes went live today and we're working on fixing the center spacing issue. If you have any other problems or questions, you can reach me at [email protected].

The old font is easier to view. This one looks bold for everything, headers, text, etc.

I like it! Much more modern an up to date than the old site. I can't say I have experienced any problems with centering

Well, the F5 solution fixed the centering problem, and it WAS a very BIG problem. I was about to complain in very bold type. However, the new font is not good for me, at least on my notebook. Much harder to read.

Other problems:
1. The new heading takes up practically the whole of the screen on my netbook. Probably looks great on the IT people's nice big monitors but is NOT good for smaller screens. All that orange all at once hurts my eyes.

2. It's actually slower. Sigh.

I've discovered another font complaint - why is the font so much smaller on the profile page? I use the profile a lot, and the font is now really too small to read easily. (Of course, the font in "Your Reply" has been too small for some time, but I don't use that as much.)

I like it. It looks great on my mac screen -- much easier to read than before. Cleaner and less cluttered.

I paid my semi-annual visit to the Lounge, and discovered that there are supposed to be white blocks for the text and diagonal lines on everything else. I don't think I'd like that, but the only way I can see it is to tilt my netbook screen WAAAY back, practically to horizontal, and it's still very faint and not how I like my screen.

On my Mac, the site looked great this morning. On my PC, I had to do the F5 fix to eliminate the centering. I have no idea about white blocks and diagonal lines, as I haven't seen anything like that. Sometimes the Lounge strikes me as occupying an alternative universe - maybe it's only there that you get diagonal lines.

Thursdays, I get the same font on the profile page as on the forum pages.

Kathie - someone has done something about my profile problem - thanks! The text is now a good size, but it's still a different font to the forum pages - I actually like it better... In fact, it looks to me like there are three fonts on the forum page - one for the left margin, one for posts, and one for "your reply". My preference is for the one in the left margin.

I've been reading the lounge posts and I didn't know what they meant about the white blocks for text and the diagonal lines for everything else. I couldn't see that on my MacBook. But by tilting the screen all the way back, I can see it. It's so faint, though, as to be nearly invisible.

In the actual text area of each post, the background is white. In the area to the right of the posts and to the far left (left of the title list), there are very faint, very thin, diagonal gray lines that are evidently meant to provide a pale background. I like the idea - but they're so faint I can't really see them on my screen.

Overall, so far, I'm ok with the changes.

I have a Mac Book. I see very light, diagonal lines, but no white blocks. Personally the way it was, the other way round, was easier for me to read, as I don't like this font. Happy Travels!
