China & Tibet - 17 days - Itinerary help needed!

Hi all,

My sister and I are wanting to travel to China & Tibet from around the 16th Dec - 2nd Feb. We're not too sure on an itinerary just yet, which is why I was hoping you guys could help!

We would need to start in Beijing. The trip would be ideal if it ends close to India as we are travelling around India from the 3rd of Feb onwards. We were looking at spending maybe 3 days in Tibet? And aside from going to Beijing, Xi'an and Hong Kong we are pretty flexible about where we go.

All the help you can give would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!

Not worth going to Tibet if just for 3 days. 5 days minimum, in my opinion.

Take a look at www.weatherbase.com It is going to be cold - and that is even if you don't go to Tibet.

it is very popular in China that many citizens consider they must do 3 things in China, one of them is go to Lhasa. and the two other thing are bike tour 318 nation road and walk tour in Tibet.

Yes I am aware of the weather at that time. We actually like travelling in the cold, that is not an issue for us. We travelled around Nepal during the cold months & it was fine

Lhasa is dry, and not unbearably cold in the winter. Having said that, its twice as far from sea-level as Kathmandu, though I don't know where in Nepal you visited.

The problem with a short visit to Tibet is that you are limited to Lhasa. With the trouble and cost of getting the Tibet Travel Permit and issues with altitude sickness, 3 days there is not worth it.

Nepal is very pleasant in December - warm days - 70 degrees in Kathmandu, Tibet is nothing like that.
