China House Restaurant at Oriental Hotel in BKK

Does anyone know if the China House has re-opened? We are in BKK Nov 19-23. Thanks

If is opened you might need a reservation 2 days in advance. we had the BEST peking Duck for 2 EVER and that is saying a lot for we have ordered elsewhere in Asia and the US and they did not compare.
I would share 1 appetizer and the Peking Duck and 1 sorbet for desert and tea. The tab with 3 glasses of wine for the 2 of us in late April '06 was $85 or $90 but a memorable meal!!

I sent an email to the Oriental and received the following reply today (October 19): "Thank you for your email with regard to The China House Restaurant. We target to reopen it on 12 November 2006."

Well, it looks like my birthday meal will have to be postponed to the second half of our stay in Bangkok.

I hope others had a different experience, but our meal at China House was terrible. Yes, we ordered the Peking Duck, and the first course with it was one very small duck and pancake each, but then we were asked if we wanted the rest of the duck. We did and after a very long wait, we got deep-dried to a crisp squiggles of duck. My son-in-law who seldom gets angry and eats anything..walked out of the restaurant after one taste. We did order other dishes and they were ordinary. Maybe it was a bad night but we remember it as our worst meal in Thailand. We liked other restaurants at the Oriental.

Wow your experience was sure different that ours. Ours was the most exquisite Peking Duck I've ever had.

While the Peking Duck comes in couses if you have eaten it as often as us with 1 appetizer we could hardly finish our meal.
"Try It You Will Like It".
You might want to email a reservation for there may be others awaiting it's re-opening.
