There's little to choose between Chinese travel companies (and this one is based in Yunnan, not New Jersey), and the numerous disadvantages of allowing such companies to put their hands in your pocket have been discussed under numerous threads on this site, as use of the search box above will reveal.
There is no need to use a tour company to travel in China (again, see numerous accounts of independent travel on these pages), but if you really must do so, you need to be ready for all kinds of shenanigans, and there are several questions you should be asking those you are considering.
