Chiang Mai to Koh Samui or Chiang Mai to Hoi An
Hi Friends,
I am going on a fun little 6 week trip to SEA in Sept. with my best friend and am currently working out the details.
We want to go to the town of Hoi An in Vietnam, but we aren't sure if we should do it after Chiang Mai, or after Koh Samui.
We will be in Chiang Mai so we have two options:
1. Chiang Mai to Koh Samui and then Hoi An in Vietnam
OR
2. Chiang Mai to Hoi An in Vietnam and then Koh Samui
Please help! The destination we are going to after either Hoi An or Koh Samui is BALI.
Thank you so much.

The variables to consider are flights and weather.
Koh Samui starts getting rainy in October, as does Hoi An, so both are best earlier in your trip.
For flights, you have to get to Bangkok to fly to Bali, or if going from VN, you'll fly via HCMC and KL. So you are better off flying from Bangkok - fewer stops.
Have you looked at the websites we recommended? www.weatherbase.com for weather info, www.airasia.com for inexpensive flights to Bali.

Hi Kathie,
Nice to hear from you.
Yes I looked at AirAsia but they dont fly into Da Nang (close to Hoi An) so I went on Kayak and found some good flights. We will manage to do both of these destinations before October so I think we will be Ok.
