We'll be driving from CM to the Anantara. what's most scenic route to take? Any interesting stops along the way? We'll also want to stop for lunch near CM, since we'll have just flown in from Luang Prabang around 1:00 p.m. Is Four Seasons along the route? If so, I suppose we could have lunch there and walk around the grounds, which I understand are lovely. Any other recommendations?

CFW,
I will be driving the opposite way:
Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai
I know there´s a short way, that you drive straight to Chiang Rai city, and from there on the main road to the Golden Triangle.
What I am doing is the "longest" wich seems to have more scenic views and stops, it is leaving CM passing trough Mae Rim (yes, where the Four Seasons is located), and then following route 107, you will pass trough the Chiang Dao Caves, continue on and reach Thaton, then turn the route 1089 untill you reach the Golden Triangle Area. I got this information using a Thailand map I bought here in brazil and internet info. I don´t really know how accurate this is, but that´s what I am going to do (but in opposite way). You can get a detailed map (pdf file) of this itinerary on: http://www.budget.co.th/pdfs/worldclass_golden_eng.pdf
Hope i helped!
Maria Carolina
