Charging iphone 5 in burma and thailand

I live in the US and have an iphone 5 with the usual charging cord.

I'd like to take this phone with me so that my family might contact me in the case of emergency. I realize that outlets in Asia are different than those in the US and that the current is 220 instead of 110.

I have been unable to get a straight answer from Apple or online as to what converter I need to be able to charge my iphone while in Burma and Thailand. A plug converter? A currency converter? Both?

Particular product recommendations, including those I could purchase at Amazon or at Radio Shack, much appreciated.

You only need an adapter, no converter. If you have a set of "universal" plugs, that will work. I'll try to find an Amazon link for you.

I have an iPhone 5 and I live in Thailand. The wall plug that came with the phone is multi voltage so all you need is what Kathie have suggested - a universal plug.

plenty of adaptors available in Thai shops.....of variable quality though.

You may want to consider using a surge protector in Burma

Serious question - I thought cell phone service was pretty much nonexistent in Burma. Is that no longer true?

There is cell phone service in Burma, though the question would be whether his iphone would work there. It depends on his US cell phone service. And of course, roaming charges will be outrageous.

As slow and spotty as internet access is, you would be better off using email for messages to/from home.
