Changsha, China to Vietnam and Bangkok

In the summer, I plan to fly from IAH to Beijing (using United Award Miles), then to Changsha > Bangkok > Vietnam (purchased tickets) and return to IAH (using United Award miles).
1) I'd appreciate any suggestion what the best routes to best use the award miles and less cost on purchased tickets.
2) any suggestion which airport to fly in/out to Changsha.
