Here is the recent post on the same topic.

If you are serious about buying stones, make sure you really know what you are doing. Do your research at home - how to tell a quality stone, how much would it cost at home? I can buy loose stones for half the US wholesale price from my jeweler in Bangkok. Unless you can get a significant discount in Sri Lanka, I'd forget it.

Valentina2015 here is the link to the earlier post....

Bangkok is notorious for heat treated Gueda whoich is sold as genuine blue saphire so be cautious.

In Sri Lanka you can get a certificate of authenticity from the Sri Lanka Gem Corporation. If you like I will check with some friends and advise on the procedure.

Thanks, Mohammed, for supplying the link I omitted.

There are good sapphires as well as not-so-good sapphires available anyplace. A good jeweler in Sri Lanka (and a good jeweler in Bangkok or Amsterdam to New York or London) should be able to tell you what you are buying and supply certification that it is what they say it it.
