I've heard that eye glasses are cheap and of high quality in Singapore - has anyone any experience of this? Any information on price and how long it takes for them to be made would be appreciated.

My traveling companion has purchased glasses in KL and now in Bangkok. I would expect prices to be significantly higher in Singapore. Check prices at home before you go so you know whether to order them in Singapore. How long it takes to get them back depends on what kind of lens you need. If you need progressives, it will take longer than for a single vision lens. In any case a week should be plenty. In Bangkok, the price is about half the US price.
My family have our glasses purchased from:
People's Park
101 Upper Cross Street
#02-22~25 People's Park Centre
Singapore 058357
Tel: 5330232 / 5325110
Usually open about 11am onwards. The place is usually packed. The check up is done by a qualified ophtamalogist.
Price depends on the lens, frames that you want.
Thanks so much for the information. KMLoke, how long does it usually take for the glasses to be ready?
Can be done pretty quickly if you tell them you are in a rush. Of course depends on the lens ie if you want hi-index, bifocal, progressive than need a bit more time.
