Burma, the Golden Rock, yay or nay?
I'm aware a visit to the Golden Rock is an overnight trip from Yangoon. Is skipping this sight a mistake? I;m debating if I should add two extra days in Burma to visit the Golden Rock.
Thanks in advance.

We skipped it. It looked boring. If you have extra time, go to Kengtung on the eastern border. We did three day hikes with a guide from there, and had a wonderful cultural experience meeting local people who still wear native dress.

I have not been to the Golden Rock in my three trips to Burma. I've researched it, but other places always seemed more interesting. Add any time you can to your Burma trip - there is plenty to do and see.

I've been. When we got there there the fog came down and it was hard to see very much. The next morning was the same so I've got a few foggy low contrast photos of the rock. Also it had been raining so everything was slippery underfoot. At that time you had to either pay for a sedan chair or walk for several kilometres up and down the mountain. I think the trucks will take you right up to the top now. Also sitting in the back of a crowded truck on a narrow plank of wood is not very comfortable!
I'd give it a miss!

Golden rock is amazing! We loved visiting and stayed overnight in the Mountaintop hotel (the only hotel for westerners). To get to the top of Kaiyaktio you are packed ln the back of a truck (lorry) for a twisty ride. But seeing the rock at sunset and again at sunrise is an unforgettable experience. Well worth while.
