I hope I can come!
We're in and looking forward to it. Good location - easy to get to. Hopefully Saturday dinner can be nearby?
Lcuy, if you're not there, I won't be there. (And I'm hoping to hear Dr. McDreamy utter those wonderful words to me on October 5th "You are now in complete remission".) The only reason Bob's going to tolerate my being there is that by both law and custom, he has to invite a token liberal. I relish the opportunity to call him "Einstein". You and I must be there, he will be afraid, very afraid!
BC
she is the only one who calls me einstein anymore, sadly.
i've already ordered lcuy's cake...
Eric and I are in. I'm going to check and see if the hotel has AAA rates. Usually they are the same as senior rates and we have AAA. Will be there for both nights and, I think I'll make my reservation now (as long as there is no penalty to cancel, in case the venue changes). Looking forward to seeing everyone! We will be planning an Asia trip for the (I hope) near future, but we are going to Spain in June so we may have to say we are part of the Europe contingent.
lcuy and bookie, you both better be there!

Einstein invited me and Eric so bookchick, you're not the only token liberal. And lcuy I think wears the label as well. We must unite and be strong
They charge as soon as you make the res with the reduced rate! I think I'll either wait or go for the full price.
Hoping to be on our way to china around that time, but if our plane flies through Boston we will consider the sidetrip.
We will be leaving for Bhutan two and a half weeks after the GTG...
laurie - reserve at the lowest rate without advance payment and when you are sure, cancel and reserve with payment. That's what we do.
Bob if you buy my plane tickets from BKK then I'll go!
Great news! We will plan to attend, hopefully with good stories from the summer just spent in Japan (based in Osaka).
Mary Alice?!?!?!? OMG, it could only be better if Pook is there, too! (Of course Bob will buy you a ticket..he's renowned for his generosity, and this will be a trivial expense for him, you know.)
BC
he wasted the lsast couple of tickets i sent him and demanded a lear jet
read the payment rules again... my res is only for a guarantee and says i can cancel for no penalty until oct 5
i'm asking for a special rate, lets see what they come up with..
Wow! Sounds like yet another great time to be in Boston. Count me in! Thanks for picking a Marriott.... I need points! haha
Looking forward to it, as always.
Carol
As of right now, count me in! I'll need to connect w/ the Italy contingent - esp. Tuscany region. A milestone birthday is next year and I want to rent a place in Lucca. Need lots of information!
TR
the hotel has quoted me a $101 rate if we can guarantee them 12 nights (rooms) between thursday and sunday..... i'm inclined not to sign a contract---thoughts?
Craig, good idea, that is what I am going to do.
Bob, the senior rate doesn't have the same restrictions as the AAA rate. The AAA rate isn't as cheap and, you have to pre-pay and a cancellation at any time results in a charge for one night. The last two hotels we used did not have those restrictions and, the AAA rate was the same as the senior rate. We don't qualify for the senior rate.
Laurie, we don't qualify for the senior rate either. Now, if it was a Hilton-affiliated hotel, anyone that is an AARP member would qualify for discount - easily worth the annual dues.
Bob, I'm guessing that we don't have 12 nights amongst the attendees - maybe Pook would be willing to buy all 12 for us...
Just got an email from Bob and he has promised to buy my plane tickets! I am requesting business class and Bob is insisting on economy.
Craig - what's an "Aarp"? Is that a Bostonian expression?
Pook, it's the American Association of Retired Persons - I joined at 48 years. The only requirement is that your spouse has reached aged 50 and is a member. No need to be retired to join and it is definitely NOT a Bostonian expression.
Hold out for business class - eventually Bob will give in (even though he never flies in the front of the aircraft himself)...
ok, ok, i'll send the family jet
Send it to Illinois as well. You'll have to stop and refuel along the way, and I know just where to do that!!! lol
Thanks for the info Craig. We tried to pronounce it, "Aarp", several times but it just didn't sound right and it sounded like something a pirate would say.
Pook..AARP is one of those things that"middle age" Americans use to get cheaper hotel, car, and other reservations with. Usually knocks $10-20 off the price of things. They also do insurnces and fight for rights of seniors. Mr Cheap uses it alot.
Hmmmm. now I wonder who Mr. Cheap could be
Oh noooooo. I so wanted to come and meet you all. However, we are already booked for the Palm Beaches FL at that time.
I always enjoy the photos following the event though, so will look forward to that.
Love and Hugs
Sue
I wrote my last post before reading through the thread and was not just smiling, but really laughing...
So much fun, Hey you are such a great group. Now I so wish I coud be there as I'm a conservative. Bob needs balance!!!
Can we crash the party this year? Can't book quite yet, but we're thinking this weekend might work for us.
Ms_go - you don't need to ask permission. The more, the merrier. Do come, if you can. It is so much fun exchanging travel stories and getting to know each other. If you do it once, I guarantee you'll return year after year. This is a great group.
Craig and Jeane
I am simply going to plotz from ecstasy! The Go couple will be there?!?! I'm getting the vapors, and feeling a need to loosen my corset! I have wanted to meet them for YEARS!! This may be too much for me...I may need Dr. McDreamy to write a tranquilizer prescription for me...Laurieco and Lcuy may have to prop me up on each side and semi-drag me into the room. I cannot begin to express my feelings of excitement, joy, apprehension (what if I don't live up to expectations?), and general delight at the thought of such camaraderie!
And Ms_Go, Craig does speak the truth. Several years ago these "east-coasters" welcomed me into their fold. (Simpsonc510 is also a midwesterner.) Things have never been the same since, and I have attended almost every year since, with last year as the exception--my doc changed my appointment on me (I go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston), so I couldn't make 2 trips out there within 2 weekends. I think you and Chris need to come out. Really. And I may be bringing my BFF, if she can coordinate her schedule. (She'd be coming from even further west, in Denver.) Pretty please???
BC
I'm in this year - can't figure out why I have not done so in past.
gail--send me an e mail so i can add you to our list---rhkonthailand@msn.com
First year I'll be able to attend in the USA. I wear the label of liberal and proudly. Amazingly Karen and Bob still tolerate me.
Nywoman... looking forward to seeing you ther!!
Thanks, Craig. Hard to say no to a "Pretty please?" from bookchick. Pencil us in, and we'll try to keep that weekend clear.
Sigh.... If only Muffin and I could make it. I will have to make do with Carols " live" updates.
Smeagol, my response to that is "Oh, poo!". Wish you and D. could fly in. A good time would be guaranteed or triple your money back. (Bob pays, of course!)
BC
OK, we need some Europe balance here. As usual. So count in The Three Musketeers. And our posse.
Pencil me in too please.
If lcuy goes, I'm in.
I'm a little on the politically consevative side, do you think I'll fit in?
Nanabee, I'm quite certain you'll fit in.
Jaya, were you there last year? I'm so sorry I missed you, but hope we can meet in October.
BC
Hi BC, yes I was at the last one in 2010. It was Friday night in Burlington at an Italian restaurant and Saturday night in Boston at a Thai restaurant. It was the best group of people I had never met before!
Ah, yes, The Similans. I've enjoyed meals there over the past several years in the company of Fodorites. Glad to hear your experience was positive enough to make you want a "repeat dose", LOL.
BC
I've been to two gatherings and it will be so nice to see everyone again. I'm in.
So I guess it wouldn't be too hard to pick me up in Spain n the way over???
Sounds like Bob's jet will be gong round-the-world to pick up fodorites for the BOS GTG... haha!
Still no solution to sneaking Dogster into Boston for the GTG?
I just made my hotel res for both Friday and Saturday nights. Eric and I look forward to it. Can't wait to see everyone again, and to meet the newbies!
You never know. I hope to extend a Chicago trip in September into this GTG date in Boston. I am looking into it.
Who are the three musketeers?
Lin, the Musketeers are three ladies (Cigalechanta, AGM_Cape Cod, and Gomiki) who have just recently returned from a trip to Paris. (Their "posse" is the husband of AGM, and the boyfriend of Gomiki.) This has been their second trip to Paris as "the three Musketeers". Their return is quite recent, so I'm uncertain as to whether or not there's a trip report yet from any of the three. Upon their return from the last trip, a few years ago, they each wrote a trip report and they were brilliant as they reflected the tastes and interests from each of their POVs.
BC
I'd forgotten that report BC. I hope they do it again!
dogster is a self admitted criminal so he will not be on my aircraft, unless in a small urn..
sounds like an interesting group, to say the least! Hope I can make it but I'm not flying with anyone's remains, Bob and Pook, or whoever was arraigning the planepool itinerary.
make that "arranging" and maybe "jetpool" is better than planepool.
Oh, I dunno, Lin, the use of "arraigning" might actually be more accurate than you suspect...
BC
hahaha
bookie: I am simply going to plotz from ecstasy! The Go couple will be there?!?! I'm getting the vapors, and feeling a need to loosen my corset!
I urge you to lower your expectations. I can assure you... we are unequal to the hype!
We're very much looking forward to seeing you, and everyone.
Terrific... mr_go.... another midwesterner in the group.
I'm in. I'm off to Europe next month so I guess I'll have to sit at the Europe table. Hey, I TRIED to make it to Vietnam this winter. Alas, my husband's small accident resulting in a couple of cracked bones prevented an active trip in the months I was willing to travel to that climate. Sigh. Maybe next year.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again!
we welcome you all..
we have had our little story hour for the last couple of years, now we need a new twist on it??? have each person get up and tell a story about-------??? in less than 1 minute. ok maybe 2 minutes.... suggestions??
some more good news...
THE HOTEL HAS OFFERED US A FIXED RATE OF $101.... SO HOLD OFF ON YOUR RESERVATIONS UNTIL I FIND OUT THE PARTICULARS..
Okay..random story themes:
--A city you would be happy to return to, and why. (to give others ideas for destinations)
--A two week itinerary that you'd would recommend?
--Your best travel partner tale... good or bad
--A memorable meal while traveling
--Your favorite Fodor's story- either about the forums or connections, diversions, etc done because of the forums or fodorites.
-- Lost again. When going astray made for an interesting memory
--Your personal best of list: hotel, meal, tour, event, etc
Woo hoo, Lcuy, you are on fire! ALL are great ideas and things Einstein hasn't
inflicted upon usmade us do at previous GTGs. Bravissima, signora! (His Bobness will be unable to translate this, and will have to contact his sister for translating efforts.)BC
they look good to me--write them down, einstein...
i have signed the contract with the residence inns for $101+, and will find out next week how you reserve these rooms.
NOTE: ALL ROOMS MUST BE RESERVED BY 9/04/12 TO GET THIS RATE.
OK, here is the res info for the residence inn, norwood/canton, MA
call 800-331-3131 for res and tell them the group is: "fodors travel-gett together"
price $101+ rates good for thursday to sunday
they will put us all together using this group rate
Count me in. Looking forward to it.
Just returned from Cuba on a two week photography trip. Will post a note when I have the photos up. Amazing trip and I have some fabulous photos of cars and showgirls (not together.). I'll post them to the Caribbean forum as I don't want to be booted to Dog-ville : )
However, if gPanda was still in the forum, he would have created a reason I could post Cuba photos to the Asia forum....
To wit: "I believe there are karst mountains in Cuba and besides western Cuba, they are only found in Asia. Thus, since Cuba may have well been part of Asia eons ago, you can post in the Asia forum. "
We shall toast gPanda and all his wonderful explanations.
BH:
just post a new thread when you have the pics and we will go look for them... fodors should not object
Hi- I'm not the most frequent poster here but my husband and I would love to come to the GTG. Whether we can make it will depend on his work schedule closer to October, but I did want to put us in as potential attendees. I've been around Fodors for a while and would love to meet you all!
I am seriously trying to combine a USA visit around this GTG . I hope it works out this time.
Bobbo, can you pick me up in your jet at KLIA on the 5th of Rocktober and drop me back to Denpasar on the 7th? The jet has a refurbished Concorde motor, right? I'm so looking forward to meeting you guys! Are politically INcorrect Emus tolerated in the U.S? If so count me in, if you can satisfy my travel demands! I won't be able to sleep until then!
This GTG is sounding bigger and better all the time. Now if Bob would just give out the schedule for those of us who are being picked up by the private jet....
Looking forward to a nice time in Boston once again.
i would prefer to p/u and d/o at bali... landing fees are less. btw, we do not allow drunks or carpetbaggers at the boston gtg, so that rules out most of OZ..
WE WELCOME ALL THE REST OF YOU OF COURSE...
This sounds like a fun time -- wish we could make it
I would be in if it was one week earlier. Oct 6 is during baseball playoffs. Maybe the Angels will be out of town that weekend.
Bobbo...You are quite entertaining. Just pick me up in Bali, orright! It'll be worth your while! I have a Titanium credit card. The Banks give 'em to retirees here. What is your E.T.A? So darn excited!!!!! I'll be amongst "Fodors Royalty"...my tongue is in my cheek!!! The best place for it! See ya! Yippeeee!
When the jet itinerary is decided, can you remind me of those luggage restrictions? it's been so long, I don't remember.
What luggage restrictions???
The last time this plan came up something was mentioned about luggage. (Maybe becasue I'm not FF Elite yet.. I guess you are) envy envy.
I'll be back in cattle class.
Cattle class? Me too!....BUT.... this is a private flight....kinda like the Queen's Flight or Air Force 1, so why would there be luggage restrictions? In Oz we just tie the excess luggage to the roof, with octopus straps. Seats will be limited I'd guess so plenty of extra spaces (in the Exit rows) for bags and shoes and to hang our cocktail gowns and tiaras. Please don't concern yourself with piddling details, lincasanova. Bobbo will come to the rescue, I'm certain. I saw it in my tea leaves this morning. Besides we still have plenty of time to hire a trailer to hook up behind the aeroplane.
If it's going to be so crowded, I think I'll pass.
I've only been on Fodors a couple of months, so you probably won't recognize my name---unless you've come across any of my goofy questions about what to expect in Italy (20 days from today!)---haven't been back there in 30 years. I've gotten great help (of course) from some really kind and patient travelers. Even had the opportunity to share some of my location favs with first-timers. Just started visiting the Lounge and having a lot of fun there. Would love to meet you all near Boston in October!! Where do I sign Up?
I'll call hotel tomorrow.
We'd love to meet you, Annettafly. Bob (rhk) is the leader. He will see your posting here and tell you how to get on the list.
Enjoy Italy! It's my (2nd) fave in Europe (Switzerland is #1). Hubby and I just got back a few days ago from 2 1/2 weeks in Switzerland, Germany and Netherlands. I hope you have weather like we had. It was gorgeous!
Carol
Hi Carol---and All. Thanks for the welcome. Since retiring I've been binge-traveling. This Italy trip fulfills a lifetime dream of studying Italian in Florence. Will also do a couple days in Rome, in Venice, and Cinque Terre.
Boston is my favorite American city (lived there for a year when I was 23) and I try to get there whenever possible---so GTG is a two-in-one for me. I'll probably splurg and go for a couple of days in the city and then join up out in Norwood for the weekend.
I fly in from Illinois, so I like to combine BOS with a trip north to see fall color in New Hampshire and Maine.
anne... we would love to add you to our boston group.. contact me at: rhkonthailand@msn.com and i will tell you more.
bob
Do you have a newcomer buy all the drinks rule?
Good rule Hanuman!
Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting the new people.
Lyndie--haven't seen you around on Fodor's in a long time. Good to see you here again! I actually haven't been active on the Asia forum in quite some time so I may have missed your posts.
Oh, this is so tempting. I've never been to a GTG. and Boston isn't very far, in fact, Norwood is closer to us. (We're in Dutchess County, NY, almost in Connecticut)
There are so many names on this post of people I admire and whose trip reports and comments I always read, that I would love to meet you all.
The thing is DH thinks I'm a bit looney to be on this talk forum at all, but I'm thinking it might be OK for us to come, because, although he thinks I am an Independent on the liberal side, (so would rhkkmk even let me in the door?)which I am, but DH is a raving conservative. Is that good enough to get us an invite?
Tempting...count us in if bob will have his private jet return us to Beijing. Sounds like fun.
tac... come along all are welcome... some must stand however...
laurie---lyndie just got out of rehab in india..
The first time I attended a BOS GTG my son came with me... just in case there were any wierdos that might do me harm. Son realized after that first trip that it was OK for me to head to BOS every year, solo, to attend! This is a very nice group of people. Newbies are always welcome to join in.
The first time I attended a BOS GTG my husband AND kids thought I had lost it. How could I go meet a bunch of people I didn't know at a restaurant? Fact is, we do "know" each other and I've said it before, the Fodor's crowd was the nicest group of people I have never met before!

If you're on the fence about coming to the GTG, don't even think twice and plan to attend.
I couldn't pick a warmer, friendlier, and more enjoyable group of people if I tried.
what about the beach boys or the village people?
What? Are you researching a theme for the gtg or are you planning to be the DJ?
Beach Boys:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Boys
Village People:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Village_People
I love the beach Boys and chicago but this really wakes me up. I may need it after standing all the way from VLC on that tiny jet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6zr6kCPj8
I just got a rather harshly worded email from Bob saying that I've ruined the surprise he was planning for the gtg! Apparently he was thinking out loud about whether he should hire the Beach Boys or the Village People for the evening's entertainment. Sorry Bob perhaps Michael Buble instead?
or better still... pooks and the thai-bee chicks.....
Hi there, laurieco, great to be back! Missed all the "funny folks" here...especially Bobbo! Why he'd feel the need "to air my dirty laundry" in a pubic forum...rehab is nothing to be ashamed of. Problem is I don't wish to be rehabilitated!! Stay well and lovely to see you here too!
Sorry, Bobbo I forgot to ask...Can we please try for Brian Wilson? The current line-up are, well, BORING!!!
Actually Brian Wilson is in the current lineup since last December as they are on their 50th reunion but Bobbo knew that already of course......
http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/53757439-78/fun-stadium-beach-fire.html.csp
Aloha!
but pook and the thai-bees are cutting edge and he wears those tight pants so well.
I've been remiss in keeping up with GTG's (and the Fodors boards overall), but I think six months advance notice should help me remember this one. Count me in, please! Bob, I'm emailing you my current address.
I'm hoping to make it to HK (and Seoul and Beijing!) in December; by October I'll know if I saved enough pennies or not!
What wondrous news that Brian Wilson's back amongst them. Now I really want to be there! Please send a seat map, Bobbo so I can pick my seat.
lyndie sweetheart, we only have the outhouse seat left
To those of you in doubt, do you now see why we always look forward to this GTG???!!!
lyndie. don't believe a word he says. That outhouse was torn down years ago.
Bobbo....you ARE awful! I'll sit anywhere but not on anyone's knee or in.... anyone's lap. No Sireeee, Bobbo! Actually under the seats suits me fine. Always ready for a nap! I just can't wait for the opportunity to fly over to Boston. BTW, why do the GTG's always have to be in Boston?
yea, Bob.. Why do the Boston GTG's have to be near where YOU, the organizer, live.. huh? Jeeez.
There are GTG's all over the world. Bob just happens to be very vocal about annoucing the Boston one, and we do get alot of people. We have gone to great ones in LA, Pasadena, Honolulu,Bangcok, and Flordia. Organize one in your area...great fun, but you can't call it a Boston GTG!
( I hope you realize I was joking.. )
Of course you do.. right?
of course we all have a sense of humor..
ANY OF YOU WHO HAVE EXPRESSED INTEREST AND FOR WHOM I DO NOT HAVE AN E ADDRESS, PLEASE SEND THAT ADDRESS TO ME AT rhkonthailand@msn.com SO THAT I CAN SEND YOU THE GTG DETAILS AND A RES FORM
Lin - Bob is an ex OSS(pre CIA) honey trap counter spy. He was used extensively to lure out Russian agents hence he is very gifted at organizing events. If you do attend the GTG you will note that the attendees are predominantly female.
ha ha ha.
But for some reason, I believe you.
Bob is gifted????
I wish we could attend this years events but it won't be in the travel cards for us as we leave for China a few days after this event.....maybe next year.
I was arraigning pics in my smug mug account this morning and had a smile when I saw these. Pics of the last Boston GTG we were fortunate enough to be at.......yes lincasnova, they know how to party in Boston!!!
http://tinyurl.com/6r3lkdw
Aloha!
Peter, just what I needed this morning. Thanks! Such fond memories of just one of the many BOS GTGs hosted by Bob and Andy. Wish you were coming this year, but China is calling!
Great photos, Peter. Sorry you can't attend this year...
i love the pics, thanks...
no reason for you not to come this year, we are leaving for china a few days later too... your staff will run the shop--you don't add much to daily production anyways..
Thanks for sharing those pix again. It was nice to see Gpanda again. I had forgoten he was at that GTG.
I just found a ticket for under $200 and hit "Purchase" so I'm good to go. I'll be flying in and out of MHT as usual. I just really hate landing BOS and trying to navigate the city streets and highways. Manchester is sooooo much more relaxing a drive. Anyway, see everyone in October.
this year providence would be a good alternative for people as well as norwood is SW of boston..
carol--good fare!!
Yes, good fare. I'd seen just under $300 as the 'standard' rate, so when I was able to get it for less than $200, it was time to hit PURCHASE. I like MHT because I go north, up to Conway NH for a few days after the GTG, and it makes it so much easier to get back to MHT for that flight back to ORD. Now, if I were going to the Vineyard or Nantucket, I'd think about using Providence.
Carol - Is there transport to Boston from MHT or do you pick up a car?
Okay, Everyone! Names I recognize, but except for a few, I haven't put faces with the names. However ~~ it sounds like this GTG is getting skewed toward the "above the Mason-Dixon" group. What you need is 2 Native Texans to add balance!!!!! And I know just the 2 -- Sorry to say, however, that we are leaving for BKK in October, so the chances of making it to Boston are SLIM to None!
But, if not Boston, then we are looking forward to meeting new friends in BKK, Bali, Singapore and/or CM in the fall, and to greeting "old" friends (not in age, of course) at these Asian GTGs. Or if anyone is in Hong Kong next month, this is a great time to "meet and greet." Anyone available for a HK GTG?
Sorry, that Texas will not be able to add some balance to all the Yankee and MidWestern congingency, but LO! our spirits will prevail. Have a great time, and remember that the South knows what you are thinking! Scary, huh!
Sandra
Kybourbon, I pick up a car from Avis. I don't know if there is a shuttle or not?? Maybe Bob knows.
Sandra, we'll miss you. Yes, we need some southern input, and especially Texans!
Now that BOS is served by several LCCs such as Southwest, you rarely save a whole lot of money flying in to Manchester or Providence compared to Logan. And, if you're staying in the Boston area, it really is a lot more convenient to fly into BOS. (Obviously, if you're headed up north, it makes to do as Carol does and fly into MHT.) I'm not exactly sure where Norwood is, but Bob can surely describe all of the sights and attractions that you'll find there.
there are really no attractions IN norwood, but it is easy to get to. don- it is 3 towns south of where you used to live---get out much??
ky-- there may be a bus to boston from the airport, but honestly i doubt it.. there are buses to boston from manchester downtown. i would look at the airport website to see for sure..
Great pics Peter. Eric and I got stuck in traffic and missed the soiree at Don's house so nice to see the pictures. Sorry you and Linda won't be there this year. BTW, the 6th pic, Mrs. HT is actually talking to Mr. laurieco. I know the back of Eric's head anywhere!
Well, I live in Texas, but I'm not a Texan or even a Southerner. I'll try to make this.
More later . . . need to check flights and all that jazz.
come on indiana
There are some attractions near Norwood that some out of towners might enjoy since it is foliage season.
Just about 2 miles away one could take a nice foliage stroll/hike at either of these places in Sharon:
http://www.thetrustees.org/places-to-visit/greater-boston/moose-hill-farm.html
http://www.massaudubon.org/Nature_Connection/Sanctuaries/Moose_Hill/index.php
Another couple of miles away, an out of town visitor might enjoy a loop trail around a cranberry bog that time of year and taking in a huge collection of taxedermy and live fish.
http://www.patriot-place.com/thebog.aspx
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=58
Norwood also has a pretty good hole in the wall Thai place - well for being in Massachusetts that is.
http://www.thaithani.us/
mozel
mozel---will we meet you at the GTG?
too early to tell, but if I can make it I will bring fresh picked apples! Just wanted your guests know that a simple autumnal walk was very close to GTG Central.
if you want to send me your e mail i will put you on the direct mailing list...
apples--yum... many of us bring gifts for each person..
rhkonthailand@msn.com to be put on list
we had lunch at similans last week with boston harbor and i took the opportunity to make us a reservation for the saturday nite of the GTG... so we will be back in cambridge again this year for one meal.
i will put together a res form some time soon and post it here ass well as a direct mail to those of you for whom i have e addresses.

Sounds good, Bob.
Bob, in The Lounge, Lcuy just told us she won $1.5 million, so she'll be generously picking up the tab for the entire GTG. Isn't that wonderful??

I need help coming up with an excuse to get out of a family reunion, which is the same weekend on the other side of the country. Any suggestions?
"Chris and I are going to visit an old friend who has been stricken with cancer". No one needs to know how long ago cancer struck me, or that I decided to give it a good wallop upside the head in retaliation!

It all sounds good Bob. Thanks for planning.
There's the silver line bus from the airport that takes you to South Station.

all this is true but the hotel is not near the train station although the restaurant is..
ok, i guess i will ask for help with the menu... saturday luncheon will be plated, not buffet, and we may choose 3 of the following.... let me know you preference of entree and we will select the 3 most popular:
chicken parmesan with pasta
chicken picatta with apparagus risotto
parmesan encrusted cod with veggies and roasted pots
shrimp scampi over spaghettini pasta
tagliatella alla bolognese with meat sauce, tossed with pasta
pistachio and horseradish encrusted salmon with oven roasted beets and veggies
once we set the menu (3 entree choices) i will be ready for reservations where we will ask you to choose your entry...
we will be returning to similans thai on saturday night in cambridge.
would you prefer a restaurant meal on friday night or a meal at our house where we would ask to recover our costs (a really good meal)...??
shrimp scampi!
tagliatella alla bolognese
These are all good but we favor dishes with lots of veggies and whole wheat pasta, if they offer it.
Friday night is 'whatever' the group decides. It might be a more relaxed atmosphere at your house??
craig--jeane needs the beets
I've figured out a way to do this AND make my family reunion in Arizona on Sunday (don't ask...lots of crazy flying)! Looks like we can be there for Friday evening and lunch on Saturday. I have to leave after lunch, but mr_go may stay on a bit...TBD.
Bob, I'll send you our e-mail addresses.
Yup - can't live without the beets...
They all sound good. I'd probably put the salmon and the cod as my top two (in that order), or a vegetarian option, were there to be one...
That's great, ms_go. We're 'almost' neighbors... imagine having to meet up in BOS!!
we will have some sort of vegetarian option too
Food choices look great Bob.
My fans?
Salmon
Cod
Shrimp.
Yum!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again. : )
"favs", not "fans"
whew... if they were your fans then you must be a mermaid!
Pook, LOL!

BC, looking forward to meeting up in BOS once again. Pook, you really should join us. Surely you can think of SOME excuse to jet off to BOS for a week or so??
There is a chance bradinbangkok will be coming to the GTG again. We'll see...
i hope to start a new thread next week with more concrete info and the prices, etc..
i will email people i have addresses for as well
NOW WE REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD TO BEAT OUT THE NYC GTG ON AUG 11
Ahem...and the Detroit GTG is taking place today and tommorrow, Einstein. Top that.

surplus cheese??
where is the timely report?
Finally booked a room... Mr. Lcuy may be coming along as well!
That's great, Lucy! Looking forward to BOS and seeing everyone again.
lcuy...great news if mr L comes along...
I, too, would be looking forward to meeting Mr. Lcuy. And Einstein, I'm certain photos of the GTG "in the D" will be available within the next 48 hours. We had a couple of "out-of-staters" and a full-fledged Canadian attend, in addition to a variety of Michiganders. Had a lovely time at a restaurant called Portofino right on the river, and the weather cooperated beautifully.

Attending my first GTG this weekend in Detroit has motivated me to make plans for Boston. Made my reservation this morning for the Residence Inn. At this point I'm arrivng solo, so I booked a studio w/ one bedroom for the pre-arranged $101.15 before taxes. I'm strongly considering staying in the city Thursday nite to have Thursday and Friday to visit my favorite Boston places. I've found an economy petite single at the Omni Parker House for $309. OTH, if anyone else would like to join me for a 2-day/1-night stay in town before moving out to Norwood, I'm open to sharing a room. Email is on my profile.
Am hoping to get there. Will email rhk today.
the more the merrier...
will post shortly the time, costs, etc
Love to have new blood at the GTGs!
Can anyone in the Boston/Cambridge area give me a ride to Norwood and Similans, and Bob's ?
P.S. Who is Einstein?
mimi---that is what andy used to call me... little did he know the description is correct with a little tom cruise thrown in...
the needham local train from back bay is almost across from my house--hersey station
there is the norwood train too which is walking distance to the GTG.
cigale, I sent you a message.
the frist time i met Bob, I took the Needham train from Back Bay station. Got off the train and realized i'd left his address on the train. Though Iremembered the house number, i had no idea about the street name. Luckily, he'd said his street was directly across from the train parking. When I crossed the road, there it was!
CW, I didn't get it. Please try again.
Tried again at your hotmail account.
DH and I have our reservations for October! We can't wait to meet everyone. We're flying tonight from Lima to Hong Kong - our first time actually going into Hong Kong, not just the airport!
That's great, Florida1.
Hong Kong is really fabulous. Enjoy!
florida, pls send me an e address: rhkonthailand@msn.com
continued to a new post: BOSTON GTG 2012
Which board? There's an old Boston GTG thread in the Lounge---last entry dated June 24.
We did get the Whitman House---so after dinner Saturday night we'll be close to home!
