Borneo: headhunters, shopping and safari
This past summer my 16 year old son and I traveled to Borneo for a 16 day adventure.

Maybe you don't really need to read this. Try these "What the ***k was I thinking!" and "I have no clue and really don't give a ***t." The latter sentence sets the bar for this tourist - a dizzy, shopper seeking shallow travel - as "go to a spa" while surrounded by jungle destinations & ocean islands.
I was at Sepilok alone on two occasions. Luckily, at both times, about 15-20 tourists stayed at least 50 ft away from me and were nearly quiet. Over period of several hours, a total of about 12 Orangs softly glided to the feeding area, ate and then with the greatest elegance possible flowed back into the jungle. I have been to three of the few remaining orang venues and that experience was by far the most informative and moving. The ind. travellers near me were as spellbound as I was and never moved nor made any sound.
Kuching has some great things to do, but you have to get out and hike and go into the jungle, not sit and ***ch and write vulgarities. It is good to have occasional truly idiotic reports so that reports by real travellers - not shoppers - are attractive by comparison.

The more I think about your statements on Sepilok, the more I am irritated. Sepilok was not put there as your personal Disneyland - to gratify your entertainment needs; to be a your the tourist think it ought to be. You seem to have missed the fact that there is an organization there attempting to save some creatures from extinction and for a few hours a day, humans are permitted to witness the process.
Surely your demands would be met better in Las Vegas watching Celine Dion. No wonder I never regret having moved away from NYC.

Don't worry Deb, looks like most of us enjoyed your post. Part of the beauty of Fodors is that we get posters from such diverse backgrounds. Unfortunately that diversity also includes those who are less than helpful.

Look, I really don't expect to please everyone. Nor do I want to. And finding your own voice, your real voice, is what makes for an engaging and informative read for those who share the same point of view. Those that get to know me through my posts will hopefully follow, share banter and become friends. Those that don't, "hasta la vista, baby".

Hey deb NYC- currently sitting in the lobby of Le Meridien in KK checking my email and seeing if there are any new Borneo posts. I enjoyed your blog. I welcome anyone and everyone's info on what they saw thought or did. Then I can make up my own mind, but still have the benefit of everyone else's tips on what to see and do, and many times I have gotten great suggestions for things I might have otherwise missed.

Hey susncrg-
Even though it's KK, boy do I wish I were there! Check out the Korean bbq. And then if you walk along the waterfront (I think to the left) there are some nice restaurants overlooking the water. We ate at an italian one just because we needed a break from asian food. Actually, it was pretty decent.
