Booked ticket to Bangkok right before bombings--cancel w/o penalty?

I just purchased my ticket on Cathay Pacific (restricted economy) to Bangkok a few days before the bombings in South Thailand during Chinese New Year. Now that there are travel warnings about potential terrorist attacks in the near future, can I ask CX to let me get a refund without the penalty?

I checked CX's website, but I have not seen any annoucement made yet.

I don't think so. The US State Department has not issued any pan-Thailand travel advisory. And the trouble in the south is nothing new.

Australia tell its citizens to use "high degree of caution", which is the 3rd of 5 grades for Thailand in general. Even in the south, it's still only "reconsider your need to travel", not "do not travel".

The problems in the south have been going on for a very long time. I was in Bangkok for three weeks, in Dec/Jan when the 7 bombs went off in January. That event was very unusual for Bangkok . But, my summer trip back is still on. Happy Travels!

You have a better chance of getting killed on the NY Thruway on a 3 day holiday weekend than you do in Thailand. That's why none of the embassies are saying stay away.

Right now, one of the ONLY areas I don't want to visit due to strife is Iraq....and my mom wants to go there next year. Seriously, people are right...the chances are very slim that you'll have any problems in Thailand due to terrorism/violence, other than the norms you have everywhere...petty crime, mostly.

If you want to hear some interesting tales, I'm happy to relay them...but none of them have stopped us from traveling to some interesting and unusual, less traveled areas.
