If you haven't already started the process, you will need a visa for India. Go to www.indiagov.org

India is a huge country with a vast and varied mix of geography, cultures, food and religion. What are your interests? Cities or country? Museums or wildlife? Beaches or mountains? Shopping or hiking/trekking?

A typical first-time visitors itinerary to India would usually include the "golden triangle" of Agra-Jaipur-Delhi and if time permits Udaipur and Jodhpur, so as you will be in Jodhpur you will be in that area to begin with. However, there is no reason to limit yourself to this area, and the Rajasthan area may not in fact interest you. You may want to do some reading to determine if other areas may be more interesting to you, If you want beaches, then south west India like Goa or Kerala, which are easy to get to from Mumbai, would be a better choice for you.

If you can switch you airline tickets, you might want to see if you can fly out of Delhi for home, as this would save you having to fly back to Mumbai from the Rajasthan area. For example, if you are in Agra at the end of your trip, you can get to Delhi in 3 hours by train or car, which is a lot easier than getting to Mumbai by air from Agra (there is not a lot of air service out of Agra and many flights require a change in Delhi anyway), and trying to coordinate with an international flight out of Mumbai which may depart at 2 am. Delhi is a very interesting city in itself and certainly worth a visit (and certainly offers more to see and do than Mumbai IMO).

An excellent Indian air carrier is Jet airways, take a look at their website at www.jetairways.com. Indian Air is also acceptable (indian-airlines.nic.in), but I would take Jetairways over Indian Air. Two other new but well-respected carriers are Air Deccan, take a look at http://www.airdeccan.net/airdeccan/home.asp and Kingfisher at http://www.flykingfisher.com/

For train schedules look at www.indianrail.gov.in., the state railway of India.

You don't give a budget range for hotels. There are hotels in all budget ranges in India. February and March is still the high season, so if you are interested in higher end hotels, you start booking as soon as possible. Two good operators generally in India are the Oberoi group (http://www.oberoihotels.com) and the Taj group (www.tajhotels.com. ). The Aman group also has one property open in India and is opening others that would definitely be worth considering if they are in your budget. Take a look at amanresorts.com. There is a small Indian chain called Neemrama which operates a number of unique hotels in palaces and other old buildings, from the two I have seen they have great charm but are a bit short on luxury and service, but could be something to consider if you want a different experience. Go to http://www.neemranahotels.com (This is the same with many of the "heritage hotels" in India IMO). Sheraton and Marriott run a number of good hotels in India as well, generally in the major cites.

As your arrival & departure is from Mumbai & your most important destination Jodhpur, where you need to attend a wedding, your skeletal itinerary would look like:
Feb. 19/20 Mumbai. There are several hotels to chose from, depending on your budget.
Feb 21 Mumbai – Udaipur (By air). Hotel Shikarbari or Trident/Several good hotels to chose from.
Feb 22 Udaipur (Sight seeing, the city palace & crystal gallery are the best in north-west India. Classical dance programmes at Meera Kala are good.
Feb 23 Udaipur – Nimaj or Deogarh. You shall love Deogarh for it’s beautiful hotel & a very colourful market.
Feb 24 Deogarh – Jaipur. Hotels depending on your budget, there are some most attractive properties, not necessarily at only the top end.
    Feb 25 Jaipur. (Sight seeing).
Feb 26 Jaipur – Fatehpur Sikri - Agra (Sight seeing & overnight in Jay Pee Palace)
Feb 27 Agra – New Delhi (Early morning see Taj). Hotel Le Meridien/Imperial.
Feb 28 New Delhi – Jodhpur (By air). Jet airways takes off at 12.05 noon /duration 01hr. & 20min. Hotel Taj Hari Niwas/Ajeet Bhawan again a few options for every budget.
    March 01 Jodhpur.
    March 02 Jodhpur.
March 03 Jodhpur – Rohetgarh. (A beautiful property in the heart of rural Rajasthan. Poolside dinners most romantic!)
March 04 Rohet – Ranakpur (Ranakpur Jain Temples/Hotel Fatehbaug a wonderful translocated patrician house belonging to Royal Mewar House).
March 05 Rankpur – Udaipur – Mumbai. Take the afternoon flight.
    March 06 Mumbai - US.
You may now work on it to embellish it as per your tastes/interests!

    Again.
You may also, after attending the wedding at Jodhpur, move towards Jaisalmer & take the afternoon flight to Mumbai, on return to Jodhpur. The Jetair flies at 2:00pm from Jodhpur to Mumbai.
