BKK-Thai Air Transfer
The question is "whether an hour and 45 minutes is enough time to transfer from a Thai Air JFK-BBK flight arriving at 16:05 to a Thai Air BKK-Hanoi flight leaving at 17:50?" As a corollary question, "does one have to clear immigration, obtain baggage and check-in again if attempting to make this connection?"

That connections should be fine, no worries as long as the inboud from JFK gets in on time, even it a little late should be no problem at all.
You will get your thru boarding cards at JFK and your baggage will be tagged thru to HAN, you just are in the transit lounge between flights, no customs/immig or anything, you can just relax in the transit lounge and if Business Class you get the lounge use.
Even if the flight was running late Thai would get you connected ok unless it was 'really too late' in which case should the inbound get in far too late for the HAN flight they would accommodate you and put you on the morning flight, but unless you get a real bad delay nothing to worry about.
