Is there a pass for both the skytrain and MRT? Also what are the options and cost for skytrain passes? (i.e. one day, 3 day , etc?)

There is no pass for both, as far as I know. They are owned by two different entities (?). I usually buy my BTS ticket for about 400 baht, plus 35 baht for the card, which is replenishable. It is for something like 20 rides. You can buy one-day passes. I have never done that so cannot quote a price.

I usually only ride the MRT to the weekend market, so I pay for my ticket as I ride to/from. 35 baht from Sukhumvit station (at Asok) to Kampaeng Phet.

Bill, Carol is right, there is no ticket for both. The skytrain ticket options have been different each time we visit. There is no longer a one day unlimited pass (and unless you did 8 trips or more it was more expensive than buying individual tickets). The two options are a stored value card, where the cost of each trip is subtracted from your card each time. The cost for this is the same as for buying individual tickets, but it is much more convenient. The other option is the card Carol refers to. It is for a fixed number of rides, like 20, and it gives you a discount if you take some longer rides. This is the one we usually buy.

Just go to a sktrain station and look at the options on the sign.

I agree, Kathie. The options are always changing! I'll be curious to see what is available this time! I'll know Wednesday, when I go up the escalator at Nana and get my ticket... whatever type I select! I always leave the left over rides for the maid who cleans my apartment, so if I have not used up every last ride, it is not a problem.

I got a day pass in Sept. I think it was 100 or maybe 120 but. Got my money's wort, but normally I just pay as I go.

As I recall, there are still one and three day passes on the subway, but not the Skytrain, where the options are really just fixed number of trips or stored value. The stored value cards can also be used at some other shops around Bangkok (Starbucks, McD, Black Canyon and Gourmet Market, to name a few). Also keep in mind that stored value cards are good for two years after last use, so if you visit Bangkok every year or so you can just hold onto them and top them up when you get back. It saves you the card fee.

Good to know about the 2-year time frame. I'm here often enough that I could get, and keep, the same card until it wears out!! I'll have to see what I can get when I am ready to hop on the skytrain today.

I want to go to MBK and look at 'bling' phone cases for my new smart phone!

You're right lcuy, they do have a one-day Skytrain ticket for 120 Baht. You'd need to make at least four trips for that to make financial sense, but I could see it might do for some.

I was pleased to see that Silom line (MBK to Saphan Taksin) has added an extra car or two to the train. Sukhumvit line still seems to be same number of cars as before, so is very crowded during busy periods.

My 25-ride BTS ticket cost 575 baht in all. That includes the price of the card as well as the VAT and the 25 rides. Seems to me the cost of the card is quite a bit higher than the old stored value card, which I believe was 35 baht. This one is at least 50, maybe 100. My receipts are hard to interpret, and the rules of the card (in English) are covered over by a sticker!

I see that more stations have been added to the BTS maps, after you cross the river, beyond Wonwiang Yai (sp) but are not yet open.
