Birthday dinner in Bangkok - where?
Where would you go to celebrate?
Ideally great food, great view and or ambience but not too expensive. I know expensive is a subjective term but happy to hear all recommendations.

Kathie, I am happy to hear of anywhere that you consider to be particularly special.
Perhaps unbelievable view, lush garden, gourmet Thai the likes of which you never thought possible, incredible service..whatever.
Price range is subjective and maybe somewhere is more expensive than elsewhere but still represents fantastic value. I'm happy to hear all suggestions including the cheap and cheerful places that are special in their own way.
Hopefully your suggestions will help us find somewhere special for us too.

I really enjoy MahaNaga every time I go - Sukhumvit Soi 23 or 29. Fusion Thai food, lovely decor, outdoor and indoor seating. Jesters at the pen is always an experience as is the Oriental but BIG BUCKS at both. For Italian (strange thing to eat in Bkk on hol I know so pl everyone don't pounce on me, only giving my two bits) Zanotti is a premium but great option with a lovely wine list. In Silom. The Thai restaurant at The Face Bar is great in terms of food and ambience. Will add more in a bit.

Hi
One place that I enjoyed in Bangkok was Vertigo on the Banyan tree building. It is located on top of the tall building and you can sit outside and the view is just amazing. I didn't eat there so I can't really comment on the food but the drinks were good

Im one who thinks birthday dinners/parties are best celebrated in fun places with shows or other things going on.. like one of the thai dancy things or a cabborett (sp)... as usual I don't know the names of any but I do know that some person out there will know of some fun places...
then again you may prefer a formal dinner and I guess some places have already been mentioned.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants for ambiance is the Thara Thong in the Royal Orchid Sheraton. It's a lovely, open room with views to the river. They have a number of unusual Thai dishes. The food is beautifully prepared and the service is gracious.

celedon at the sukathoi (sp) hotel
baan khanitha, soi 23 sukhumvit rd
the indian rest. on the top floor of the rembrandt hotel (especially sunday brunch)
crepes and co
harmonique, new road
gallery cafe, near the sheraton orchid
gallery gourmet, off soi 39 sukhumvit rd
my choice would be baan khanitha or biscotti--thai or italian--reservations at either are necessary

I took my husband to Vertigo for his birthday two years ago. The food was only OK but the view was incredible. It's a place that we might not go again (unless with other friends that have not yet been there) but it's really impressive.

Another restaurant has opened in Silom called I think Silom One which is also rooftop with a spectacular view. Food is def better than Vertigo. Can be windy and chilly tho so ensure you dress adequately.

I agree with Rhkkmk about Biscotti Italian restaurant at the Four Seasons. The food is great.I eat there regularly since I also stay at the hotel. As for Baan Khanitha..haven't tried it yet. It's on the same street with one of the hotels I stayed at(Chateau de Bangkok by Sofitel) this last recent trip, but unfortunately I didn't have time to try it, but I've only heard good things about it. I also like Celadon...at the Sukothai Hotel... for Thai food and Thanying Thai restaurant off of Silom...down the street from the Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple.I've eaten at all three branches of Thanying in Singapore. It's a restaurant in and old Thai house. Happy Travels and Happy Eats!

guenmai---don't eat at the baan khanitha near the four seasons---it is terrible....go to the one on soi 23, sukhumvit rd....we had a terrible meal at the one near to the chateau (in the old egyption embassy)....the other one (original) is fabulous....you need a reservation lunch and dinner...it is right next door to the fabulous rasi sayan shop---the best shop in bkk...

Thanks RHKKMK... for the tip....You must mean the one that's on Ruam Rudee as being the good one. I stayed at the Chateau de Bangkok by Sofitel which is on the same street with Baan Khanitha...on Ruam Rudee, but unfortunately didn't get to try it. I only stayed overnight on that street before flying down to Singapore and then back up to BK later. Next time, I'll try it. Happy Travel!
