My wife and I are in our early 30's. We are planning a week trip to Thailand but need help. #1 If you had to pick 2 hubs for exploration which would best expose you to the country, where would they be? We will spend a week at each hub. #2 Where are the most beautiful beaches and which are the best beach resorts (amenities, service, cleanliness). Thanks for all you help, references, etc.
Best way to explore Thailand?

You might want to try Hua Hin - it's only about 4 hours by train from Bangkok and is not as touristy as some places. it's where the thai royal family used to/still do holiday. Lots of places to eat, selection of places to stay to suit all budgets. it's near a national park too if you want to do something more energetic.
Maybe you should try Chiang Mai too, then you can do a trek in the jungle from there, and the feel there is a bit different from some more 'beachy places' there are some gorgeous temples, esp. the one on the mountain Doi Suthep - completely stunning.
