You may have more success with using street food in the title, most people are not familiar with Bahasa

A local friend took me to Woerung Lada in Ubud yesterday. Lada is sort of half-woerung, half-restaurant. They have large selection of pre-made dishes you can get, or you can order some menu items. They also have a long list of healths drinks. The place is new-looking and comfortable, so they probably get more foreign customers than locals, but the price is also quite cheap. Lada is located on Hanuman road quite close to where it intersects Ubud Raya.

In Ubud: IBU OKA for the world's best roast pig, around the corner from the Palace. I could not get enough of this stuff, and I could usually be a vegetarian.....amazing stuff....Anthony Bourdain and the NYTimes agree, if you google the name.

Big fan of Naughty Nuri's in Ubud. Good food, GREAT martinis!

Was going to mention Nuri's too. Had dinner there last night with a bunch of other Bangkok refugees. Always packed, and you don't have to eat the ribs. Just watch out for the Cosmos...was not a pretty sight this morning. BTW, just a few yards down from the original Nuri's is Nuri's Nacho Mama. It has the same menu as Nuri's but will often be empty when there are people waiting at the original place.

About Ibu Oka - the place is VERY popular - and lunch only - but my friend (an Ubud native) said that sanitary conditions there are not always the best, so be forewarned.

Siam Sally's is not on Hanuman street, but on Penoksian Street, which branches off of Hanuman. And it's not a waroeng either.

I'm with you on that, Michael. I like to think I can hold my liquor. But one of those goblet-sized NY martinis and I was feeling groovy. Two, and I would've never made it home.

BTW, I don't know why, but their nasi goreng was the best I had in all of Bali.

Thanks Cruisinred. I've been to Ibu Oka a few times but not the others, so I'm printing out that article and plan to try the others out in Sept.

Filmwill and BKK, I don't think I can do a real martini, wimp that I am. Any other drinks they do well? Do you agree with Bob re Siam Sally's? Worth a try?

On a different subject MichaelBKK, I still emember fondly the day I did your walk (plus several miles) in BKK that you posted directions for a few years ago. Thanks again.

I agree with filmwill and BKK. I just got back from Bali last week and had early lunch at Nuri's. We were lucky to get a table and it was only 11 am. I think you can make a reservation if you don't wanna wait.

We liked Ari's Warung for dinner, although they aren't inexepensive.

Speaking of walks and warungs - I'm surprised Will hasn't suggested Sari Organik. It's a small open restaurant in the middle of the rice fields. You have to walk about 5 to 10 minutes through rice fields to get there. I got there just in time for sunset, which was nice. I'm told the breakfast is good, so I had plans to get up early one day, walk there for breakfast, then walk on through the fields because I think the path curves around back to Tjampuhan somewhere. But on the day is was pouring rain out so I had to change my plans.

But of course, Michael. It IS the place to be.

Glad you got to experience it--sounds like you enjoyed it?

I guess I wasn't thinking of it in the typical warung sense, but, yes, it is...so it should be at the top of everyone's list

By far and above, the best place to eat lunch in Ubud--bar none.

The view alone is worth it. The food just makes it all that much better.
