I am looking at a tour that goes to India (Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi) and then Nepal (Kathmandu). Dates are available in January. Would this be a good time to visit? I am concerned with weather, (fog) and crowds.
or should I wait until next October or November??

October and November are superb. January, as you know, is foggy and can interrupt your travel. Crowds are not so much the problem (beyong the usual 1 billion people that live there) as is the fog.

Feb-March is pretty good time too.Moderate temp.Dec-frequent disruption in air traffic.
Does the tour you're looking at give you enough time in each city? Depending on how many days the total tour is, going to Nepal may or may not be worth it.
