Best 4 to 5 star hotel in Singapore?

I`m poping over to Singapore again soon and would like to know which hotels you rate the best. I normaly stay in the Grand Hyatt or Rafles, but was looking for somewhere a bit cheaper, but must still be close to the city or on Sentosa.

I'm fond of the Fairmont, don't know if it's cheaper. The Fullerton has lovely public spaces, but I understand the rooms are smallish. There is always the Ritz Carleton... or the Shangri-La or the Four Seasons.

I have to ask, why would you consider staying at Sentosa?

The Raffles Plaza at the Fairmont is outstanding. We stayed there around a year ago, following Kathies' recommendation. Absolutely stunning !!

I too.....ask, why are you considering staying at Sentosa, well worth a quick visit, but staying there ??????? No way Jose !

Thank you for all the reply`s. I have only been to Sentosa once so was going to give it a good look over while I was in Singapore and it is not that far from the city so considered staying there. But will now stick to the city and travel across, are the hotels over there that bad!

It's not so much the hotels......Sentosa is quite a way from everything, rather contrived and really will not provide you with the 'real' Singapore experience.
Glad to hear you are going for the city. Of course, spend a day or half a day visiting Sentosa.....the cable car is great, but.......the city is memorable.
We loved our visit to Singapore.

There are 2 new 5-6 star hotels on Sentosa: The Capella which is a more upmarket sister hotel of the Ritz Carlton, and The Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa. Both are luxurious and offer a different experience from staying in the city. The landscapes at Capella are especially beautiful!! Besides these 2, there is The Sentosa Spa and Resort, a more established 5-star resort on Sentosa island. It has the award-winning Spa Botanica with lovely villas and landscapes too. If you want something more affordable, there's 3 other mid-range 3-4 star hotels on Sentosa to choose from.

Don't worry about shopping or other entertainment. Just outside of Sentosa, there's VivoCity, a mega mall with a cineplex and all the food and shopping you need. If you want to get around Singapore and check out the other sights, there's the MRT (commuter train) and taxis.
