Beijing Olympic Stadium -- open for tourists?

We're going to Beijing next month and my husband wants to visit the Olympic Stadium. Tours books don't tell how to get there. Was wondering if it's even open for tourists to see? How difficult it might be to get to?

It's really easy to get there - just take the subway to the Olympic Line and go 2 stops to Olympic Green. Then you will be at the Water Cube and Bird's Nest. Not sure about stadium entry though these days - I was there during the Paralympics.

Was watching the news tonite, and both the Bird's Nest and Water Cube were packed with tourists today, during the national holiday. Only about 80,000 tickets a day for the Bird's Nest, and illegal dealers are selling the 50RMB tickets for 150RMB outside the venue.

But by the time you go, holiday should be over.

According to a friend in Beijing, you can buy the Bird Nest tickets on site. For the Water Cube, tickets must be purchased at the north Gate of Worker's Stadium.

Thanks for the link Poutine

Is Worker's Stadium in that same area?

They are not. Worker stadium is in the Chaoyang district in between the embassy sections, nearest to the dongsishitiao subway stop (you will see it listed on a map). The Water Cube is next to the Bird Nest at the Olympic Green.

Please try and verify this info with your hotel. Things change so fast in Beijing!

According to Hong Kong newspapers, the Olympic venues were a big mess after the Golden Week.

But their reporters have found that new temporary ticket booths have been set up, and the authorities are starting to clean up the places (like placing more port-o-potties).

The new temporary ticket counters are at:

- West side of the Water Cube
- SE side of the Bird's Nest

They're selling same day immediate-entry tickets there. Water Cube is 30RMB, Bird's Nest 50RMB.
