Beijing and Hong Kong in December

We are planning a visit to Beijing and Hong Kong in early December. I gather the weather in HK should be fine, but what about Beijing? Too cold?

I visited Beijing at New Years. Weather was the same as NYC, but drier. Definitely need winter jacket, gloves, scarf, turtlenecks.

In Beijing the lakes freeze over and the winds are icy.
