Bangkok's JW vs. Marriott Resort and Spa
My husband and I will be in Bangkok for only 3 nights before heading to Phuket. We would like to use our Marriott certificates and are wondering if anyone would recommend the JW Marriott or the Marriott Resort and Spa. Both are in Bangkok, but we don't know which one is closer to transportation or sights to see and explore, night life, ect. Thanks for any advice.

i ahve stayed in both and like them both....the jw is more of an international type lux hotel, the other is more of a laid back resort type feel...
our #1 hotel in the world is the marriott resort and spa...
really depends on what you are looking for...
the riverside marriott has a free boat to the sky train every 15 minutes---12 minute ride...fantastic view of the city..
the jw is a two minute walk to the nana skytrain station...the jw is adajacent to one of bkk's major adult entertainment centers---nana
both have good restaurants...
the riverside is not near to anything but we consider it an oasis...
the riverside has the best pool in bkk and a wonderful garden area....the jw has a pool on the 4th floor which is not too large and all one depth---3 feet...both have work out rooms and spas...both have hot tugs or similar..
the riverside has a nice restaurant at the pool, the jw will serve you there...
we prefer the riverside marriott...if you have never been to bkk before, the riverside location gives you special insight into bkk...go for it...

rhkkmk,
Thanks so much! Both sound wonderful, but I think you did it for us, the Resort and Spa is it! We'll spoil ourselves in the begining and rough it on the end of the trip somewhere a bit less expensive.. Thanks again

Consider the Lounge upgrade: river view room, breakfast, tea-cocktails and other perks. We'd go down to the restaurant in the a.m., get some coffe and sit on our balcony watching the sun come up and river awakening. A great way to begin the day.

Any updates to this? I just res'd the JW for my last two nights in town... executive lounge floor. Should I switch?
I am at the Shangri La at the very beginning of my trip. Flying home early on my last day - taxi will pick me up at the JW.
Thank you.

The place that was formerly the Marriott Resort and Spa is now the Anantara Riverside.
BTW, this is such an old thread, it would have ben better to start a new thread. My personal rule of thumb is if a relevant thread is more than a couple of years old, start a new thread.

J W is great! Rooms (even on executive floor) are rather ho-hum, but the lounge is one of the best in the Marriott chain, in my experience.
Former Marriott on the river was also very nice. It still gets very good reviews as the Anantara.
There are other Marriott choices in Bangkok, including the newest one on Sukhumvit, about soi 59. I've stayed there. It's fine, but not as nice as J W.
