Bangkok Tour Guide
Has anyone used Wandee for touring lately? Any other suggestions would also be great.
Can anyone give me an idea how much it will cost if we wanted guides for three days which is the max amount of time?
Thanks

I tried to get a few Bangkok guides recommended here (Tours with Tong was one). None of the companies contacted me. My travel agent had booked an airport pick up with Destination Asia and they had private tours. We organised 3 seperate tours - 2 x 3/4 day and 1 full day to the Bridge on the River Kwai. For a driver and tour guide we paid about US200 to $300 a day for my husband and myself.

Miss Green, when travel agencies make such arrangements, the prices are very high. You would have been better off waiting until you got to Bangkok and making arrangements with an agency there. The individual guides can be very busy. It is notoriously hard to get a response from Tong, for example.

I got a quote from Wandee for three days for about $700 US .R we better booking when we get there. I am a real planner and do not do well with" just winging things" which sights can we do on our own with a map and the Sky train? Do we work with the hotel or find an agent ahead of time locally?

You can see all of the in-city sights with a map (get the Nancy Chandler map) and the skytrain and water taxis. You only need a driver and/or guide for the out of town sights. You certainly don't need someone for three days!

As I have said many times when this subject comes up - you don't need a guide but a driver can be a great option especially if this is your first time in Bangkok. Why? Well yes you can certainly do it on your own with the skytrain, river taxis and now the subway but consider the benefits of using a driver even for just a day or so. The heat and humidity of Bangkok is killer and it will slow you down. Using a driver means you cut down on being out in the heat. You are only out when you visit the venues. Plus the driver gives you cold bottled water and towels to refresh and you ride around in air conditioned comfort. You will get to do twice as much as well because you are not as tired. Once you have done this for a day or two the remainder can be on your own as you will have acclimated somewhat and are more familiar with the city. We did this on our first trip to Bangkok (with Ratt) and it worked out great.
Ratt even gave us a cell phone to call her when were finished at some of the venues so that she would meet us at the entrance to pick us up - less walking again. On some she accompanied us and held an umbrella over my wife's head and even carried our packages!! At the government store she even got us a 5% discount.
Now that is service with a capital S!!!!!

Hi Ladyrep in answer to your question we have hired Wandee a few times over the years and she has been consistantly good, reliable and fairly priced- we have compared well you have to these days. In my view we got good value for our money Re cost that will depend on what you want to do, I suggest drop her a mail and ask her to quoute for you [email protected], If you have an interest in Temples ask about the two temples in Kanachanaburi not far from the River Kwai they were a real genuine WOW and I get templed out very easily lol not the usual temples we get to see- one Thai the other Chinese and next to each other

I was in Bangkok when I booked. I received what I paid for. Excellent service. I would book them again for the same price.
Tong and other tour companies/guides could not even be bothered to answer my emails.
