Bangkok - State Railways of Thailand - All the Excursions

Further to the thread I started about the excellent vfm weekend trips by train to Kanchanaburi and Nam Tok, here's the full list of excursions run by SRT...

Some of the longer excurions are really interesting, so don't just ignore the link.

People need to like trains though. Not everybody does.

Simple, just ignore the thread.
Some of itineraries look good though, and it's one big happy family all the way.

I was told that at least some of these trips are no longer offered due to lack of rolling stock, specifically, the Amphawa trip being one of them.

Yingluck wanted to build a high speed rail network.

If that ever gets built I would take trains. The current system is very poor.

Just called them. The Amphawa trip is, indeed, no longer happening. The others are still up.

"The Legend of King Naresuan" is dependent upon whether they get a minimum of 10 participants.

Yep, you're right. I've just found this on TA...

"I had understood that the SRT suspended the Excursion train back in mid 2013 due to rolling stock problems. I rang them, and they confirmed that though it ran again from Dec 2013 for the peak holiday period, the service has been cancelled since 25 March 2014."

It could start again, so it's always worth checking. Ditto with any other excursion, here today, gone tomorrow, and back again the day after.

The Naresuan trip requires pre-registration, at Hualumpong station. It runs 1,000 baht. But, it includes lunch a an interesting padthai joint, and I believe entrance to the Prommitr studio lot is included.

The others seemed to be Ok if booked by phone. It sounded like they were pretty well established.
