We stayed at the Peninsula recently and I can think of no better way to start the day than to catch one of the shuttle boats to cross the river .

Since her earliest days (~ 1998), I've had the supreme pleasure of staying on the "other side" at the Peninsula hotel for business and brief holidays. (The Millennium is a bit north of the Peninsula and I've yet to stay at that particular Hilton for work; hopefully, many others will have personal impressions.)

Have never experienced a transportation downside staying at the Peninsula. To the contrary, I've always cherished being on the other side, both for solo business trips and with the loved one. (My most recent review of the BKK Peninsula can be found on my profile page; will never be able to praise that property enough -- such fine staff and friends.)

(My other riverside stays for work and occasional pleasure over the years are the Mandarin Oriental, Royal Orchid Sheraton and Shangri-La. Have experienced joyous times at all those fine hotels; hard to go wrong, down by the river, in the City of Angels.)

Wherever you stay, enjoy. And, in a few months time, I should have a review of a soon to open riverside property, The Siam. (Do remember the chequebook for that place, soft opening rates, and all.)

i have not stayed there but i have visited some room types there... they are a bit odd shapped and not very large, except the expensive riverfront ones...

the shape of the hotel is narrow, side to side, but long from river to street, so if you have a room nearer the street you could not consider yourself riverside...

i love the "other" side of the river... easy access to river city shopping center and taskim skytrain station via boat from hilton

i will be in BKK in Oct for the first time, and am also considering the millenium, great rates at the moment - $85!! versus the ROS $127.

Is the ROS better than the Millenium?

Sometimes with such a price difference, going with your pocket book, if important, has its compensations.

I would find it hard to justify paying 50% more for a room comparing those two hotels unless it was a special anniversary or something. The ROS may have some offers later on. Is that rate cancelable that you have seen? If so, grab it then keep looking and asking..

I was there 2 weeks ago and stayed one night. Location is great and being on the other side did not bother me at all.
Rooms are very small and odd shape like Rhkkmk(bob)said but for one night it was ok. The best was the club lounge service and the view of the Chao praya it offers. For my taste too many floors, i much prefer the Anantara type with only 3floors.
