Bangkok, here I come! Yes, again!!

This is an annual trip. Every year, during the last couple of weeks of April, I am off to Bangkok. It's the month to celebrate a couple of birthdays, DS and a very dear Thai friend. I know, it's the hottest month of the year, and this year it appears to be REALLY hot.

I usually fly via Narita from Ohare, but this trip will be via Hong Kong, on United, business class, with the HKG to BKK leg on Cathay Pacific. It's a long ride! Hope it's not too bumpy up there!

Once again I will be posting here, so come along if you would like to. I will perhaps be trying new restaurants, new shopping places, a side trip to Chiang Mai perhaps, plus showing Bangkok to a couple of friends from Germany who will join the big birthday group this time.

This trip is much shorter than I would prefer, but I'm travelling in between chemo treatments. I'm so happy to still be able to travel, even on short hops!

Anyway, I'm on my way in a matter of hours!

Carol

Made it to SFO for a 3 hour layover before heading to Hong Kong. So far so good. Time for some duty free shopping (just looking, really) and a snack in the United Club. Hong Kong layover will be short! No shopping time allowed.

My short layover in Hong Kong also includes a stop at Cathay Pacific to pick up my boarding pass. Hope it's a quick stop! Since CP is not in the Star Alliance UA could not give me a boarding pass.

Anyone else done this UA/CP routing to Bangkok yet?

I was going to say "bon voyage" Carol, but as I read down, I realized you are already on your way. Tough routing this time, but you are in business class so it should be manageable, as always. Have a great trip.

Have fun! Glad you could make the trip.

Friends just e-mailed me today and have just left Bangkok for home. I didn't know that they were even there. You met them at my GTG luncheon. They were the couple, not on Fodors, but long time friends of mine that I met at Chatuchak one day when my Thai friend and I were out shopping over a decade ago. They're on their way back home to L.A. They went to Myanmar and Bangkok again as they've been going to Bangkok for probably 20 years and to Myanmar for well over a decade. I imagine it's really hot now in Bangkok. I'll be glad to get back in the winter, during the cool season. Smiles.

Happy Travels!

Transfer at HKG not a big deal. The departure gate was a long walk though!

Bob I am back on soi 8 at Adelphi. It's beginning to look bedraggled I'm afraid. But as you know, I like serviced apartments with laundry facilities, so I will overlook the signs of wear and tear and enjoy this great location.

Ah jet lag. Gotta love it. Up at 5:30 after just hitting the sack at 1:00ish.

Immigration was very quick last night. Did not need fast lane. And then my suitcase was about the 10th one coming around, so it was a fast arrival into Bangkok, followed by quick pick up by DS and off to soi 8!

Since I was pretty much wide awake, we want to the Pickled Liver for a cold beer and food.

Today, I am running errands that will take me to Bumrungrad and MBK and then maybe a bit of shopping. Lat tells me that the new Emporium addition is open and is beautiful. Must go check it out!

The sun is up, the birds are singing, and I've got things to do! Good morning Bangkok!

I just woke up my taste buds with a spicy Thai minced pork with my usual breakfast. Delicious! My taste buds have been asleep..... I'm not in Illinois!
